Meet the Team

HashiCorp Design is a “team of teams” consisting of Product Design, Creative Design, Design Systems, Design Operations, and Research. The Research and Insights team’s mission is to help HashiCorp learn about our users and customers, explore problem spaces, and generate insights that support teams in making evidence-based decisions and developing thoughtful solutions.

What We Do

We believe learning is something we all do, regardless of job title, and we support teams through different levels of engagement. Our approach to research begins with a democratized, practitioner-led researcher-supported model. 

Building on this model, we leverage research specialists to drive strategic research efforts such as problem space explorations that are product-agnostic. This helps build understanding and activate shared learnings across teams and offerings.

Research at HashiCorp supports and enables teams in a few ways. First, we aim to activate, elevate and accelerate the research our teams are already doing or want to be doing by offering tools, training, and resources through self-serve and advisory support. In addition, we have embedded researchers, who embed with a team or focus space for us for extended periods of time. Lastly, we provide support through our specialist-led studies and research program, our Research Foundations team, which drives long-term, strategic research efforts.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Researcher, Operations you will be a part of the Research & Insights team and work closely with our DesignOps team, as well as partners across the company to activate our model of democratized research. You will provide strategic and tactical support for a newly forming team – developing working models and processes from the ground up, while also managing research ops programs.

You will work across the entire research portfolio, establishing processes around project management, setting deadlines, assigning responsibilities, and monitoring and summarizing the progress of work in-flight. You will help drive alignment across various initiatives and teams, clarifying objectives and ensuring we’re driving towards agreed outcomes.

You will bring your organizational skills, customer service approach, initiative, and UX knowledge to the world of DevOps to manage centralized UX research tools, insights repository, enablement guides, documentation, intake, and reporting; provide end-to-end participant coordination, including recruitment and compliance processes.

You will partner with the Research & Insights team to create and support the ideal participant experience and contribute to an efficient and continuous learning environment across teams.

You are someone passionate about user research and operational excellence, who takes pride in understanding people and systems, and looks to contribute tactically and strategically. You are comfortable with experimentation, autonomy, and ambiguity, with proven success in driving consensus across multiple teams, at multiple levels.

Your Roadmap to Success

First 30-Days

You will build a deep understanding of HashiCorp’s R+D organization and the current state of Research & Insights through your own discovery process. 

First 90-Days
You will deliver an assessment of the fundamental workflows and systems needed for this newly forming research team to execute. You will work with the Director to define and stack rank these in priority and close out the first 90 days with blooming cross-functional relationships and a plan to execute. You will design the blueprint, gain consensus, and implement the team’s new working models and processes. You will also manage the prioritization of work and team allocation while supporting researchers in the management of their studies. By the end of your first 90 days, the team will be operating under your new workflows and processes, and you will begin to identify other areas for improvement.

By 180-Days

You will own research operations and co-own the problem-solving space with the Director. This means playing an active role in strategically surfacing opportunities and pain points, hand in hand with solutions. At this point, you will have established the fundamental operations as well as close partnerships with peers and stakeholders that are needed to take the team from forming to performing, and your focus will shift toward building a community of practice. A continuous thread in your work will be helping nurture a culture of learning within all our teams.
