Senior Technical Project Manager

Role Overview

Do you want to be part of the biggest digital transformation in EdTech and help people around the world learn languages and realize their dreams?

The English Language Learning (ELL) division of Pearson is looking for a talented and motivated professional to join our growing team as Senior Technical Project Manager. In this exciting role you will be playing a mix of project management and scrum master, with a background in technical product management and business analysis. You will also be responsible for supporting the agile software development teams to deliver outstanding digital products end to end.

High Level Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall development life cycle of the product/application and the management of complex cross-product technical solutions.
  • Work with product managers and stakeholders to align on product goals and strategy to support the product roadmap.
  • Develop a keen understanding of the customer including the ability to discover the true requirements underlying feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches
  • Work well with internal and external stakeholders, to influence and drive decision making
  • Work closely with senior engineers to develop the best technical solutions and capabilities to serve a global customer base
  • Analyze requirements and identify solution gaps and opportunities for refinement. Assure deliverables meet requirements.
  • Lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with high-quality solutions.
  • Assist with project management, by defining and tracking deliverables to a schedule
  • Create reports and dashboards to track and visualize initiative progress, highlight key risks, and report spend against plan.
  • Facilitate meetings, document meeting outcomes, record and assign action points, and track follow ups
  • Coach the development team on Agile best practices to deliver high quality products and services to our customers
  • Facilitate and support all scrum events: Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum and Sprint Review
  • Set the team up to be self-organizing and nimble. Resolve team impediments to increase the efficiency


Qualifications & Skills

  • Degree in Software engineering or Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • Extensive years of deep hands-on technical expertise either as a software developer or through the management of highly technical programs at an enterprise scale
  • Demonstrable technical product development experience and a track record of shipping software on time
  • Strong business and technical vision
  • Outstanding communication, facilitation, negotiation, and coaching skills
  • Knowledge of an agile framework or method (i.e. Scrum, Kanban), or understanding of software development life cycle models as well as in-depth knowledge of traditional project management principles and practices
  • Adept at refinement, story splitting, estimation, velocity, retrospection, and other Scrum techniques
  • Planning and problem solving with product management and delivery teams
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Expert user of JIRA, Confluence, Smartsheet, Miro or other comparable tools
  • Experience facilitating meetings at multiple levels of an organization
  • Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English with the ability to efficiently articulate ideas, pass along information and present visionary concepts to key decision-makers
  • Passion for education and learning
  • Experience in working with multinational, multicultural and distributed teams
  • Experience developing eCommerce solutions


As required by the Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Act, Pearson provides a reasonable range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the state of Colorado only , the range of starting pay for this role is $65,000+. This position is eligible to participate in an annual incentive program, and information on benefits offered is here
