Job DescriptionSr. Technical Program Manager – Inventory Management

A Senior Technical Program Manager (TPM) is part of a key team of Technology professionals managing technical programs that deliver significant business value to Nordstrom and its customers. As a TPM at Nordstrom, you will lead complex and cross team programs to drive the vision and technology in partnership with our software engineers, product managers and business stakeholders.

Inventory Management is responsible for delivering technology solutions supporting our inventory position, which is the company’s single largest asset and the biggest lever of gross margin. How efficiently we manage inventory has a direct impact on the company’s bottom line. Our team is uniquely positioned to have a significant impact on company results and support the overall company experience. As part this organization, this TPM will support the platform and tools that our operations needs for managing inventory activity throughout the Nordstrom network. This is a critical function to get the right merchandise to our customers where and when they want it in the most efficient way possible.

A day in the life…

Thoroughly understands the standards, concepts, and principles of technical program management to solve practical needs of the business, while independently managing moderate to large programs

Proactively manages work execution through program dependencies, risks, schedules, budgets, and understands the importance of requirements gathering, prioritization, and clear stakeholder communication

Partnering with stakeholder and technology teams in building product/platform road maps and plans ahead for the next 6 to 12 months, and proactively influences features and functionality

Uses data to report status, performance and communicates using fact-based and relevant data

Applies engineering lifecycle knowledge to feature design, task estimation, design review, story creation, triage, schedule, and performance standards

Engages engineering, design, product, business, and leadership to get alignment on goals and requirements

Deconstructs the long-term goals into well-defined phases and iterative deliverables

Independently manages a growing set of diverse partners, stakeholders and other relationships, clarifying ambiguities and successfully driving alignment. Proactively builds relationships outside of their immediate area with subject matter experts and decision makers.

Participates in technical design discussions and assists their squad in making trade-off decisions by speaking to the customer or user impact of different options

Reads basic code constructs, and understands estimates of effort to complete engineering work streams

Perform basic data querying, analysis and testing tasks when needed

You own this if you have…

A 4-year degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field preferred

4+ years professional experience of technical program management delivering large complex programs/projects in a technical environment

Technology background, especially in a cloud-based architecture with a deep understanding of software development, passion for data and analytics

Proven track record of leading large cross-functional software projects.

Experience managing stakeholder relationships, agile SDLC methodologies, and comfortable with JIRA and Confluence

Both business and technical acumen, including the ability to discover the true requirements underlying feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions

Strong customer and stakeholder empathy. You must be not only the voice of the customer. You must be able to channel many points of view, synthesize them and drive alignment even in times of friction and disagreement.
