Job Description:

Crowe is hiring for a Scrum Master for our Product Engineering Healthcare team.

Scrum Master (Senior Staff Level) Job Duties include:

Servant Leader (growing and mastering):

  • Serves the Product Owner, the Scrum Team and the Organization by helping the team focus, identify goals, achieve results, and deliver value in whatever way necessary
  • Selflessly leads the Scrum Team by influencing, asking the right questions, and encouraging collaborative discussion rather than directing and micromanaging
  • Influences those outside of the team using Facilitation, Teaching, Coaching and Mentoring skills when possible
  • Promotes team ownership, collective and shared accountability, empowers the team and encourages transparency
  • Promotes collaboration, self-organization, and helps the team and its individuals develop, perform and achieve synergy
  • Helps the team build comradery and a foundation of trust
  • Encourages the team by Scheduling appropriate team celebrations when warranted

Facilitator/Scrum Event Value Driver (lives here/growing and mastering/focused on team)

  • Facilitates or Guides the Scrum Events for one or more teams as needed and ensures that guidelines around the following are enacted:
    • Agile Values and Principles
    • Scrum Theory, Scum Framework and Scrum Techniques
    • Timeboxes
    • Definition of Done (as defined by the Team and the Organization)
    • Team Agreements
    • Transparency and Flow of Work
  • Proactively and continuously seeks ways to improve the value obtained from the Scrum Events
  • Proactively and continuously focuses on ways to help the Scrum Team maximize the value of the product they are delivering
  • Facilitates/Coordinates communication between the Scrum Team and those outside of the team as needed
  • Builds and Measures Team Level Metrics as needed for identifying areas of improvement, providing necessary transparency, and facilitating informed retrospective discussions, etc.

Impediment/Risk/Continuous Improvement Identifier (growing and mastering):

  • Proactively teaches the team how to identify impediments and risks
  • Fosters an Environment where the team feels comfortable and compelled to surface impediments and encouraged to solve them within the boundaries of self-organization
  • Proactively identifies and facilitates discussions about impediments and dependencies at the team level and helps the team find resolutions if needed
  • Proactively identifies and facilitates discussions about impediments, risks, and dependencies that are outside of the team's direct control and either leads resolution or collaborates with others to guide resolution

Coach/Service to the Team and Product Owner (learning and growing):

  • Coaches the Product Owner on effective techniques for backlog management and how to arrange the product backlog to maximize value
  • Coaches the Scrum Team to Understand the Need for Clear and Concise backlog items
  • Coaches the Development Team in self-organization and cross-functionality
  • Coaches the Development Team on ways to deliver high value products
  • Coaches the Scrum Team and individuals on the Agile mindset and behaviors
  • Coaches the Scrum Team on Scrum Techniques
  • Leverages other internal Scrum Masters and Coaches to help coach the team if needed

Coach/Service to the Organization and Stakeholders (learning):

  • Collaborates with other SM's and identifies ways to champion agile across Product/BU
  • Proactively seeks ways to provide transparency of the team's goals and progress
  • Proactively seeks ways to measure improvements through reporting metrics, dashboards, or other tools
  • Coaching those outside of the scrum team to better understand which interactions are helpful to the scrum team and which interactions are not

Manager (learning and growing)

  • Manages Impediments by helping the team ensure a resolution is found
  • Manages the Scrum Process by helping the team define their process within the boundaries of Scrum's rules and holding them accountable to following the agreed upon process
  • Manages the Team's Health, Maturity and Continuous Improvement by identifying and providing metrics that facilitate valuable retrospective discussion, and identifying and tracking continuous improvement items
  • Manages the Boundaries of Self-Organization by helping the team define those boundaries, time-boxing, encouraging cross-functional collaboration, releasable results and validated learning
  • Manages the Team Culture by ensuring a psychologically safe environment for all team members, encouraging transparency, providing an environment for safe failure and encouraging celebration, praise and constructive feedback

Teacher (learning and growing)

  • Teaching the Team about Agile and Scrum in either a formal or informal setting
  • Collaborates with Senior Scrum Masters to provide teaching and training if necessary
  • Coordinates and Facilitates Training for new teams/team members as needed

Mentor/Services to Team Members (learning and growing)

  • Counsels team members to resolve conflict when needed
  • Proactively mentors others as requested or by sharing what they are learning within the communities of practices

Change Agent (learning and growing)

  • Acts as a catalyst for change and continuous improvement for your team
  • Acts as a catalyst for change and continuous improvement in areas outside of your team when needed for the continuous improvement of your team

Master of their Craft/Lifelong Learner:

  • Possesses a passion for Agile/Scrum and a relentless drive for personal growth
  • Is proactively and continuously pursuing a deeper understanding of the Agile/Scrum Values, Principles and Technique
  • Is Proactively pursuing advanced level certifications
  • Proactively seeks Coaching and Mentorship from senior leaders within the Organization and Pursues opportunities to collaborate with other Agilists in the greater community
  • Proactively seeking ways to grow as a SM and sharing what was learned with the teams/CoPs
  • Is Proactively pursuing a better understanding around the concepts of Engineering Best Practices (Testing, XP Practices, etc.) and how these best practices help your team to become more Agile. Encouraging your team to learn more about these practices.

Experience

  • Proficient Level of Understanding of Product Development and SDLC Process
  • Proficient Understanding of Agile Values, Principles, Techniques and Roles Proficient Level of Understanding of the Scrum Framework and Scrum Values
  • General Understanding of Lean, Kanban, and XP
  • General Understanding of Coaching Principles and Facilitation Techniques
  • 3-5+ years as a SM for multiple teams or as a Scrum Team Member in another Role
  • Must possess an entry level Agile Certification or equivalent experience (PSM I, CSM, CSPO, PSPO, etc.) and be ready to pursue an advanced level certification (A-CSM, A-CSPO, PSM II, PSPO II, Scaled Agile or other)
