The Scrum Master embraces the Agile mindset and encourages others to do the same. This individual coaches the team to follow Scrum processes and practices. The Scrum Master protects the team from outside interruptions, distractions, and obstacles enabling the team to deliver high-quality, high-value products as quickly and effectively as possible. Scrum Masters lead from a position of influence (without direct authority), often taking a servant-leadership stance.

The Scrum Master also has Project management responsibilities consisting of weekly status reporting, financial forecasting, capacity management, and staffing procurement for their teams.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure Scrum concepts and practice are understood and followed by the team.
    • Participate in product road-mapping and release forecasting activities.
    • Partner with the Product Owner to support business priorities.
    • Guide the team to maximize delivery of value and establish a healthy team cadence.
    • Facilitate the removal of impediments to team's progress.
    • Monitor and report on sprint progress.
    • Facilitate sprint retrospectives and identify ways to continually improve.
    • Participate in / facilitate Scrum ceremonies, as necessary.
    • Participate in cross-organization dependency discussions (e.g., Scrum of Scrums).
    • Actively participate to share knowledge and experiences with Scrum Masters and others in sessions such as the Scrum Master Community of Practice.
    • Ongoing participation in learning activities and finding opportunities to incorporate them into organization
    • Coordinate deployment activities with Release Management.
    • Coordinate with Agile Coaches for guidance and training (individual or team) as required.
  • Act as a servant leader for the Scrum Team by providing guidance and coaching to the team in how to be self-organizing and efficient using Agile tools, techniques, and practices.
  • Project management activities
    • Produce weekly status reports, including issues and risks
    • Produce financial forecasting
    • Staffing procurement for teams
    • Capacity management
    • Vendor management (SOWs, contract management)
    • Provides input/reports to project / program leadership
    • Participate in PMO process improvement initiatives and PMO onboarding activities



Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and/or relevant experience.



Training requirements

  • Scrum Master Certification or equivalent knowledge or experience



Knowledge and skills

  • Agile
    • Strong leadership capabilities, strong judgment, and the ability to work effectively with and influence clients, team members, management and external groups.
    • Strong analytical, problem solving and planning abilities.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Proven ability to clearly and effectively communicate business and technical information and to effectively mediate conflict situations.
    • Ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the business/client environment and systems
    • Strong emphasis on team collaboration.
    • Knowledge of agile concepts, values, and principles.
    • Knowledge of Scrum concepts and practices.
    • Knowledge of other Agile practices including Kanban, SAFe, Lean, etc.
    • Ability to partner with the team to deliver all phases of complex assignments.
  • Project Management
    • Ability to plan, track, and adjust project financials in PPM
    • Knowledge of project management tools, techniques and practices.
    • Ability to interact with senior management
  • Knowledge of hospitality industry is preferred.



Technical Skills

  • Experience working in Jira, Confluence, or other Agile Software Development tools.
  • Knowledge of MS Project, Word, Excel, Outlook, and Visio software programs.
  • High-level understanding of various technologies including cloud applications(web-based, mobile-ready), databases, networking, telecommunications and connectivity.
  • Experience with eazyBI and Jira Advanced Roadmaps is preferred.
  • Experience working with PPM tools, such as Clarity, PlanView, or Primavera is preferred



Job experience

  • 3 - 5 years of experience in Agile team environment.
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in a Scrum Master role.



Experience equivalent to the education requirement may be accepted in lieu of the education requirement.
