Job Description

Do you want to become a part of one of the largest, friendliest, and most active open source communities in the world? The Salt Project is looking for a Community Manager to help us get to the next level of community engagement. You will be involved in all aspects of community development as you engage with our users, our developers, internal teams, and external working groups and conferences. If you enjoy working with people and building community excitement around a project, this role is for you. You can learn more about Salt at SaltProject.io

In this role, you will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following activities:

  • Shaping how new users discover Salt and engage with its community
  • Reaching out to existing community members and sponsors
  • Monitoring community forums to identify areas of improvement
  • Support internal development teams in their communication with external contributors
  • Organize events around the Salt Project including SaltConf
  • Drive the development of community content such as video blogs and articles
  • Contribute to project health assessments and recommendations for next steps
  • Facilitate community meetings and working groups
  • Formulate leadership level messaging and communications

  • A thriving and growing open source community
  • A clear model for how new users, existing users, developers, and field engineers interact and engage with the Salt team and the community
  • A healthy balance and relationship between Marketing, Product, Engineering and the Community



Required Skills

  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Strong communication skills
  • Comfortable building relationships with new people
  • Strong understanding of how open source Communities operate



Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with product management
  • Familiarity with the automation product space
  • Familiarity with the Salt Project
