Job Summary

We are seeking a R&D Project Manager for our Microbial Solutions site located in Charleston, SC.

Charles River is seeking a Project Manager who will serve as a strong contributor within the Microbial Solutions business unit to drive teams from idea to launch. The Project Manager will provide leadership and support for the design, development, refinement, and implementation of projects, along with risk mitigation and contingency planning. The Project Manager will manage stakeholder communications by providing updates on project status, leading gate reviews, and proposing scope changes and/or mitigations when necessary. This individual will work cross-functionally with Scientific, Engineering, Quality, Operations, Regulatory, Marketing, and Controls and Automation. Scope of work could include new products, line extensions, inter-divisional projects, continuous improvement initiatives, and business continuity projects. This role reports directly to the Head of Project Management.

The following are the job duties & responsibilities related to the R&D Project Manager:
• Leads cross-functional teams and facilitates on-time delivery of project tasks and milestones.• Facilitates the scheduling and planning across multiple functional areas, coordinating internal and external development and test resources and working with resource managers and other project managers to insure proper staffing, project alignment and integration.• Owns the responsibility for the definition and clear communication of project priorities, delivery of project expectations, and identifying and mitigating issues and risks.• Drives the vision and goals for the overall team, keeping members engaged by creating a positive environment through coaching, encouragement, and recognition while striving for accountability within self and others.• Implements new business, operational, or system-based functionality processes. Leverages technology to drive a data-driven and risk-based approach to communicating progress, risks, and achievements within the programs.• Establish risk-adjusted, cross-functional project plans and budgets from feasibility through commercialization stage-gate phases, with excellent understanding of Design Control or product development process principles.• Collaborate within a multi-disciplinary environment consisting of Bioscientific and Engineering R&D, Operations, Quality, Regulatory, and Marketing to bring instrumentation, consumables and software to market.• Provide support to projects within Microbial Solutions business to meet business needs.• Drives change in company culture and support strategy by effective project management.

Job Qualifications

The following are the minimum qualifications related to the R&D Project Manager:
• Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or Scientific field preferred; experience in lieu of formal education may be considered.• Minimum 5 years of experience Project Management or project leadership role; Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification or similar certification is preferred.• Proven ability to lead multiple teams, partner with management and lead indirect resources.• Demonstrated experience in Product Lifecycle Management (i.e., stage-gate) from medical device company or healthcare industry is preferred.• Demonstrated experience in project initiation, planning, execution, release, closing, and risk management.• Knowledge of project management processes and tools such as PMI model, scheduling software and configuration management tools.• Experience with or knowledge of various commercial and conventional healthcare/ microbiology systems as well as emerging technologies.• Experience and understanding in Design Controls or product development process according to Quality System Regulations (QSR) 21 CFR 820 and ISO 13485:2016. • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop positive relationships at all levels of the organization.• Proven communication skills both written and verbal.• Proficient with MS Office Programs, including MS Project or similar project management software.• Strong conflict resolution skill set and critical thinking skills.
