The Program Manager leads the successful delivery and fulfillment of assigned program(s) and/or custom products to Pearson customers adhering to the principles of the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). Typically, a Program Manager will have the responsibilities of a single assessment program, a portion of a very large complex program, or two or more small programs. This includes the coordinated management of multiple related projects, and in many cases, ongoing operations which are directed toward a common objective. They are also responsible for managing program staff activities, who support the delivery of the program. The Program Manager is accountable for meeting the cost, quality, and schedule expectations of the program and achieving outstanding customer satisfaction. This position reports to a Portfolio Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Delivery Management

  • Responsible for understanding clients' needs and wants, and developing and maintaining a positive relationship with the client.
  • Provide outstanding customer service. Be responsive and timely in responding to questions, concerns, and requests.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all program delivery contract communications and escalations with the customer.
  • Accountable and responsible for understanding the scope and deliverables of the program, ensuring understanding of the contract, and garnering support from the functional areas.
  • Responsible for management of monthly forecasting process and quarterly contract value updates.
  • Manage subcontractors and negotiate lower pricing.
  • Manage programs to planned financial goals ensuring revenue, costs, and margin align with original plan, updated plan, and monthly forecasts.
  • Responsible for all program invoicing.
  • Responsible for making sure all project management documentation and requirements for their program (i.e., Schedule, Program Management Plan, Risk/Issue/Incident Management, Quality plan) are complete on time.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for all delivery-related escalations from customer and internal teams. Manage delivery risks and issues to mitigation and resolution.


Resource Management

  • Manage direct reports (project managers/project coordinators) who support program delivery.
  • Retain and grow talent.
  • Manage the performance of each team member and provide training to further develop staff.


Sales Management

  • Support the VP & Portfolio Director in the growth of contracts through scope modifications, renewals, and extensions.
  • Work with internal teams to gather costs to support scope changes and extensions.
  • Provide costs for program management to support scope changes and extensions.
  • Assist the VP & Portfolio Director in RFP responses for new and existing accounts as assigned.


As required by theColorado Equal Pay Transparency Act, Pearson provides a reasonable range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the state of Colorado only , the range of starting pay for this role is $90,000 - $100,000. This position is eligible to participate in a sales incentive plan, and information on benefits offered is here.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree required or commensurate experience. Master's Degree preferred.
  • PMP certification preferred or demonstrate an understanding and application of Project Management Institute (PMI) principles
  • People management experience in the areas of leadership, mentoring, professional development, performance management, and team/relationship building with employees at all levels highly desired
  • Significant experience with customer service, program/project management, and business development preferred
  • Previous experience managing finances highly desired
  • Demonstrate ability to manage multiple, conflicting priorities
  • Effective verbal/written communication skills, strong listening, negotiation and facilitation skills and the ability to develop and deliver presentations
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, as well as awareness of KeyedIn scheduling tool
