Upwork’s Information Security Office is on a mission to build a mature, enterprise resiliency program that meets internal and external needs. This is an opportunity for you as an experienced resiliency professional to apply your expertise in business continuity, disaster recovery, incident management, and crisis management to build a practical, cross-functional, and compliant program. This is an exciting opportunity to mature an enterprise framework, build cross-functional processes, develop a collaborative community of planners, and ensure effective planning and response. This fast paced team will take the resiliency program from strategy to reality with the strong support of leadership.

Your Responsibilities: 

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Resiliency & Asset Management, this individual will:

  • Lead regular oversight activities with cross-functional teams and their line leaders, providing direction on implementing policy requirements and standard methodologies to ensure the success of the enterprise resiliency implementation.
  • Monitor, mentor, and lead, through matrix reporting and ad-hoc consultation, a portfolio of functional area coordinators and planners to deliver plans and exercises, as well as respond to events, in an effective and timely manner.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams and their line leaders to train and collaborate with named individuals to establish and maintain business impact analyses, business continuity plans, and disaster recovery plans.
  • Develop, deliver, and track completion of required and optional resiliency training on framework, procedures, and tools. Escalate as required to achieve adherence to policy requirements.
  • Develop and deliver regular adherence reports for the executive leaders on their functional resiliency program status and perform quality assessments on functional results. Escalate as required to achieve adherence to policy requirements.
  • Develop and manage evidence requests for audits, exams, and due diligence on resiliency programs, as well as review resiliency of third parties and vendors.
  • Lead enterprise crises and coordinate functional teams in carrying out a coordinated response.
  • Collaborate with legal and risk management teams to ensure functional teams are managing resiliency risk to expected risk appetite and compliance requirements.

What it takes to catch our eye:

  • Experience leading within a Second Line of Defense framework.
  • Experience working to meet international banking regulations for resiliency, including business continuity, disaster recovery, and incident management.
  • Experience in building and maturing a resiliency program.
  • Experience building and leading matrixed teams to effectively accomplish work.
  • Experience monitoring a large portfolio of resiliency plans and exercises.
  • Experience handling crisis-level and executive-facing business continuity or disaster recovery events.
  • Highly adaptive and open to changes as the organization grows and its needs evolve.
  • Strong communication, both verbally and in writing.
