Job Summary

Product Operations plays a critical role in the product life-cycle at Avalara -from ideation and development, to launch, growth, help, and support. We partner closely with product, engineering, and other Global Operations teams to improve product operations focused on quality product launches and empowering the product management team. Those who join our team are very passionate about solving process and automation issues. We need influencers who can align cross-functional partners to ensure the best possible experience for the teams we support. The Product Operations and Excellence team has the mission to design and implement unified, scalable processes and operating frameworks across Product Operations to progress operational maturity and drive cohesion and alignment with our internal partners.

Responsibilities

The Program Manager will work with Leadership in Operations, Product, and Engineering, as well as peers and cross-functional partners to drive operational efficiencies and scale processes and teams sustainably.

The ideal candidate should have strong program management, problem solving skills, is independent and collaborative, has excellent time-management and organizational skills, and communicates clearly. The candidate should have a high tolerance for ambiguity, strong empathy, and an ability to operate autonomously while building trust and producing results. A successful candidate is a natural leader and facilitator; is dynamic, driven, and detail oriented; excels in program/ project management; communicates with ease at all levels; is adept at facilitating actions and resolving conflicts.
  • Manage complex projects and programs that impact entire Product Ops organization with specific focus on product management's interaction with the Software Development lifecycle
  • Design, build, and improve processes and systems that contribute to operational excellence
  • Cultivate interpersonal relationships and drive collaboration on highly cross-functional initiatives
  • Prioritize and maintain continuous alignment with your stakeholders
  • Identify product metrics and work with data science to develop data driven dashboards that influence product design
  • Maintain accountability and produce high quality deliverables
  • Communicate effectively, and interpersonally, zooming in and out effortlessly based on audience ranging from peer-level to executive leadership
  • Be a change agent by understanding organizational dynamics that influence adoption of process changes

Qualifications
  • 5+ years' experience in program/project management
  • Proven effectiveness in project scope, scheduling, and delivery
  • Proven ability to facilitate discussions across teams
  • Excellent communications skills and an ability to translate between business and technical stakeholders
  • Experience in assessing processes, program plans, and operations requirements
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to analyze and data to back up assumptions and recommendations to drive actions
  • Ability to work with distributed teams
  • Experienced in Agile and Scrum. Certification a plus.
  • Executive presence, high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and judgment

Preferred Qualifications
  • BA/BS Computer Science or Engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex dependencies in-project, out-of-project, in-company, and out-of-company, upstream and downstream within project constraints
  • Demonstrated ability to establish KPIs, track velocity, and execute structured problem solving
  • Demonstrated ability to work in complex cross-cultural environments to drive business process change.
  • Experience developing operational processes and process improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver both strategic and tactical results across diverse cultures from inception to completion
