Yahoo is a global media and tech company that connects people to their passions. We reach nearly 900M people around the world, bringing them closer to what they love-from finance and sports, to shopping, gaming and news-with the trusted products, content and tech that fuel their day. For partners, we provide a full-stack platform for businesses to amplify growth and drive more meaningful connections across advertising, search and media.
A Little About Us:
The privacy landscape is rapidly developing in countries around the world. Yahoo, like many of our peer companies, is investing in a comprehensive privacy program to manage increasing privacy risks. This role offers the opportunity to help shape Yahoo's compliance program and materially reduce our risk exposure.
Yahoo's privacy team supports all of Yahoo's business units - including ad tech, media and commerce - across all brands (which include Yahoo, AOL, Techcrunch and Engadget). Our role is first and foremost to ensure privacy compliance, but we also serve as a valued partner to internal clients - helping enable business goals while appropriately managing privacy related legal and reputational risk.
We are looking for someone to help drive the design, development and deployment of platforms that support Yahoo's privacy strategy, globally. The individual will collaborate with many cross-functional teams, including product management, program management, systems architecture, engineering, design, governance, security and legal and business teams. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who loves the intersection of technology and complex legal issues and has a passion for driving change.
Responsibilities:

  • Drive the ongoing program of development of core privacy platforms and technologies
  • Work closely with other members of the Global Privacy team to understand their requirements
  • Work closely with the business, product management, program management, design and engineering teams to elaborate on the requirements leading to the development of user stories ready for development teams
  • Act as the interface between the product management team and the Global Privacy team throughout the product development lifecycle
  • Participate in planning and strategy development
  • Perform, or coordinate user acceptance testing on behalf of the Global Privacy team
  • Support other members of the Global Privacy team as a subject matter expert on the platforms and technologies used to support privacy at Yahoo
  • Support other members of the Global privacy team as a subject matter expert in software engineering and software development methodologies
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable federal, state and international privacy laws, and monitor advancements in information privacy technologies to support organizational adaptation and compliance.
  • Perform highly detailed technical reviews of complex data-driven systems and processes.
  • Think and communicate in the abstract to derive value and draw meaningful conclusions from often incomplete information, such as that provided via conference call, hallway conversation, or high-level presentation.
  • Provide meaningful clarity to unclear, abstract, or nuanced problems accurately and efficiently. Use technical talent and experience to shed light on complex problems for non-technical stakeholders and partners.
  • Bring creativity, ingenuity, and resourcefulness to the group to consistently find the best options

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum of 3+ years experience working within digital technology companies as a software engineer, systems architect, quality assurance engineer, business or technical analyst, or program or project manager
  • Must have experience working in an agile development environment
  • Must be familiar with the use of user stories, acceptance criteria and user acceptance testing
  • Must be familiar with the principles of project and program management, and associated tools and software
  • Must have experience working with product management and design teams
  • Solid working knowledge of privacy laws, such as GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, LGPD, PIPL, etc.
  • Team player, able to influence, collaborate, negotiate and solve problems with business partners and expert teams across organizational lines.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to consider and reconcile abstract, big picture considerations with concrete use cases and nuanced, low-level details.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Desire and ability to quickly learn about the activities and specificities of our unique business model, advanced technology capabilities, and evolving regulatory environment
  • Self-starter, willing to take individual ownership and drive initiatives to resolution while reporting appropriately on progress made and escalating when difficulties are encountered

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree
  • Relevant experience working in a privacy related role
  • Solid knowledge of software development technologies (both frontend and backend technologies)
  • Solid knowledge of software tools for managing project delivery (for example Jira or similar)
