About the job
The Red Hat Enterprise Applications Strategy and Transformation (EAST) team within the IT team is looking for a Director of Enterprise Applications Portfolio Program Management Office (PMO) to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will serve in a lead role supporting the Strategic Programs Portfolio (SPP). You'll be responsible for oversight and leadership of the SPP PMO. You will use a combination of your leadership, technical, and operational excellence skills to partner with portfolio leadership, IT, and other technical teams to deliver business transformation. You and your team will design, build, and deploy integrated, holistic PMO solutions and processes to support being the backbone of the portfolio. As a Director, you will also design and implement an operating model with team structure, working with multiple internal PMOs, several strategic working teams, and multiple external partners in highly complex multi-year delivery of strategic programs. You will be accountable for the continued maturity of the enterprise applications portfolio management function, including introducing a robust prioritization and dispositioning process for hundreds of requests. You will implement effective PMO processes, tools, and templates like project schedules, Gantt charts, action and decision logs, risk registers, Smartsheet team spaces, status reporting, assumption and decision tracking, interdependency management, onboarding, etc.
What you will do

  • Design and manage a gate review process to ensure that planned activities are delivering against plan and using resources efficiently
  • Ensure that methodologies and techniques are in place to identify and manage critical path across a multi-year-program portfolio to ensure proactive monitoring of potential impacts to timeline, budget, or scope, including intra- and interdependencies
  • Ensure portfolio team clarity, answering questions like who is responsible for what and who should make what decisions, how, and when
  • Be accountable for promoting a PMO culture of excellent stakeholder and customer touch, ensuring that the PMO is a helpful partner to those working in the portfolio and helping to make it easy for our team to interact with the portfolio
  • Be accountable for monitoring efficiency, making sure the right people are spending the right amount of time on the right issues and that we are getting the right risk/efficiency tradeoff across the board
  • Provide advice and guidance to the SPP lead and solutions leads to increase team velocity, identifying the bottlenecks in each program and what levers can be pulled to accelerate it
  • Ensure proactive risk mitigation, ensuring that the dependencies are perceived and described to business leaders and that delays don't surprise us and are perceived ahead of time and teed up with accelerants and tradeoffs
  • Create systems and processes to ensure transparency and a clear, factual window into progress (scope, schedule, and spend); make sure that the right information is getting to the right people at the right intervals
  • Equip the decision makers with excellent data and logic (analytics) on the most important questions including ROI at a portfolio and program level, so that they can make evidence-based decisions
  • Review health and performance of portfolio regularly and identify performance improvement opportunities; advise solutions and portfolio leads
  • Ensures compliance of portfolio with company and regulatory policies and procedures


What you will bring

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline
  • 15+ years of project management experience focused on the development, implementation, and maintenance of large-scale integrated information solutions platforms
  • 7+ years of experience actively establishing and managing PMOs in support of upper double digit million-dollar portfolios
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership and implementation experience in technology and operations or other similar environment
  • Experience managing a portfolio of highly complex concurrent projects
  • Experience in large, complex multi-vendor information solutions development and custom software integration in support of business intelligence (BI) and information access
  • Proficiency in managing work using a project management discipline
  • Expertise in project management and budgeting; technical and operational knowledge necessary to provide expert advisory services to technology and business
