As a Member of Technical Staff, MS (Switching), you will initially focus on delivering high-quality fixes for regressions and customer issues with our products. You identify and eliminate technical debt and code smells, accelerating release of our latest features to customers. As you mature in your knowledge of our codebase, you will be responsible for improving and re-architecting existing components and subsystems, as well as developing new features to support the future growth of the product, both in terms of functionality, simplicity, scalability, and availability. Our projects are driven by technological innovation and developer creativity in addition to market demands, giving you the structure and freedom to pursue projects you are most passionate about. You’ll have the opportunity to work across teams to design features and systems to solve complex problems for our customers. With millions of people using Meraki products around the world, your work will have a significant impact from the day it is deployed.

You are an ideal candidate if you have:

Proficiency in C and C++. If not proficient in C++, must be proficient in another object oriented programming language
3+ years experience in a production software engineering environment
A strong networking foundational knowledge (LANs, routing, switching, wireless)
Experience developing and troubleshooting in a Linux environment
Experience working with and writing concurrent programs
Understanding of OS fundamentals and experience working in both kernel and user space
A focused, organized approach to development, testing, and quality
Excellent communication and presentation skills

Bonus points for:

Experience developing and implementing core network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, ARP)
Experience building cloud-based infrastructure and services (e.g. web applications)
Scripting skills in Ruby or Python
Understanding of network security fundamentals
Experience working with version control, specifically Git
Experience with Yocto
Experience in developing for Cisco IOS-XE

Discover new paths to success

Overseeing Cisco’s wireless and systems manager portfolios, Jayanthi Srinivasan said her role comes with challenges — and with that comes fulfillment. “The variety keeps me both challenged and learning at all times,” Srinivasan said. Currently, one big opportunity comes in the shape of developing a team that bridges wireless cloud and non-cloud products. For Srinivasan, breaking that new ground is professionally thrilling. “This is a huge opportunity to make an enormous impact on the industry as well as the customers,” she said.

Work across functions to grow

With a nod to the Meraki core value ‘Everybody in,’ Korey Rebello notes that this applies not only to a silo-free work environment that aids in career development, but it also applies to the work itself. “It’s reflected in how we develop and release products and features,” he said. “We seek feedback from a wide range of teams and customer profiles when designing and building new features to ensure they will have the greatest impact upon delivery.” From engineering to sales and now on the product team, Rebello’s own career path is representative of the cross-functional nature of the team.

Forming a nucleus through culture-building activities

Mary Piontkowski’s team helps shape Meraki products, but they also find time for bonding activities like speed networking and employee spotlight presentations. Piontkowski is especially fond of the team’s “monthly gratitude sessions.” These sessions were formed organically and allow everyone the chance to contribute to a values-led culture, increase engagement and promote happiness at work. “Activities like this, where we share genuine thanks and appreciation for one another, help create a safe and warm team dynamic. We practice kindness and learn so much about each other as people,” she said.

It’s up to all of us to maintain and shape our culture. We all need to show up and live our values: care deeply, everyone in, be brave, and simplify everything.

What are some social events your company does?

Meraki Chicago hosts several social events. Some current and past events include weekly yoga and meditation sessions and cocktail classes, cooking classes, drag bingo, talent shows, and more!

What does your typical day look like?

Badge in the door nearest the espresso machine and make latte art in the form of the Cisco logo. Work can range from teaching customers how RF works to designing multi-site Meraki networks. When I'm not evangelizing customers, teaching Networking-101, or handling escalations, I make easy work of those foolish enough to challenge me at ping pong.
