Are you up to the challenge?
TheIT Project Manager who joins our team is responsible for participating in cross-functional programs and projects that implement new & enhanced software systems and processes for Intelsat and its customers. Partner with more senior program and project managers to assist with structuring and executing one or more projects of varying size and complexity. This role will be exposed to early stage project conception and definition through delivery of the end-product and will be tasked with assisting in the construction of work breakdown structures and associated project schedules, triaging and tracking project issues & risks, and analyzing and reporting on project status.
This role is primarily focused around:

 

  • Studying and learning to apply all aspects of the IT program methodologies and lifecycles
  • Coordinating and collaborating with highly matrixed teams to provide structure and focus on achieving project objectives with quality, on schedule, and within budget
  • Learning & implementing SDLC and project management best practices and Intelsat methodology among different departments across the company
  • Developing leadership capabilities required to drive teams to accomplish shared objectives
  • Supporting senior team members in performance of their duties

Can you drive these processes?
To join our team of project management professionals, you will need to:

 

 

  • Be comfortable and capable managing small to medium sized projects that have unknowns, ambiguity and uncertainty, which you can sensibly define, structure and convey to others in a clear and organized manner
  • Assist in the preparation of project charters and kickoff meetings, providing clarity on project objectives, team structure, roles & responsibilities and deliverables
  • Assist in the development of comprehensive project work breakdown structures and associated schedules, resolving ambiguities as necessary.
  • Learn and apply formal change management practices that ensure that projects are baselined at kickoff and all changes are thoroughly scrutinized for justification, impact to the project and have received appropriate approvals
  • Anticipate project risks and issues and work with the team to provide mitigation strategies and resolutions, while ensuring that stakeholder expectations are managed appropriately
  • Maintain project information in SharePoint, Jira and other collaboration tools, ensuring documentation is kept up to date and well organized
  • Support EPMO Management in defining and drafting deliverable templates and sample documentation where required
  • Assist Sr. PM's in project coordination, project artifacts creation and maintenance
  • Collaborate with Sr. PM's to drive enhancements and continuous improvements to the project management playbooks
  • Effectively communicate information to diverse audiences, including translating technical subject matter into clear business terms
  • Assist the EPMO team throughout the portfolio lifecycle, ensuring quality and clarity of phase transition requests and primary owner of the deliverables within each phase
  • Work with the EPMO team and its stakeholders to assess and report on capacity planning, manage contention and seek resource optimization.

You should definitely have:

 

 

  • Minimum two to three years of professional Project Management experience over IT initiatives
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education and experience commensurate with the responsibilities of this role
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent time management skills; ability to multi-task effectively
  • Desire and predisposition to bring order to disorder
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience applying analytical skills to creatively solve problems
  • Desire and ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment
  • Demonstrable initiative and ability to work as a part of a team
  • Follow-up and follow-through on work products and activities

It would be nice if you had:

 

 

  • Experience with a lean/agile for software development
  • Experience with one or more agile tools (such as Jira, RTC, Rally or Version One)
  • Course work in project management or academic or personal experience applying project management principles experience or background in Engineering, Computer Science or Information Technology
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools - Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio
  • Entry level understanding of financial and IT SOX controls
