What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a dedicated Engineering Program/Project Lead to apply their technical expertise in Physical Biosecurity to conduct research and/or analyses to assess biological risks and/or biological threats globally. The selected applicant will use a breadth of knowledge across several specialized fields for applications in chemical/biological security and risk management to develop teams, proposals, and projects. Exciting and unique opportunity
On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Direct technical projects or scientific research which may involve multi-disciplinary activities and be recognized as an expert in engineered physical security and laboratory assessment.
  • Use technical expertise in the life sciences and public health to apply existing mitigation measures to reduce biological risks globally or establish novel methods to reduce risk and expand our risk reduction methodologies.
  • Lead or participate in remote and in person training activities related to topics such as biological risk management, biosecurity (First Responder/Law Enforcement/Military and Biosecurity), Engineered Security (Physical security engineering and life sciences facilities), and Cyber biosecurity (cybersecurity and biosecurity).
  • Engage scientifically with R&D managers, government sponsors, or international collaborators on issues related biological risk reduction and/or prevention, detection, and control of infectious disease outbreaks.

This position will require domestic and international travel, including to low, medium, and high-risk countries (up to 25-30% per year).

Qualifications We Require

  • Master's degree in the Life Sciences, Engineering, or Public Health plus one (1) year relevant experience or Bachelor's degree in stated fields plus five (5) years'
  • Experience in the development and execution of biological/chemical risk reduction activities in relation to physical biosecurity and conduct research and/or analyses to assess biological risks and/or biological threats globally.
  • Experience assessing existing, emerging, and novel biological risks including materials, expertise, and technologies.
  • Ability to obtain a DOE Q security clearance



Qualifications We Desire

  • Fundamental understanding of Biological Risk Management standard methodologies and knowledge of International Security.
  • Experience with development and deployment of solutions that use or address geopolitical challenges, advantages, and relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with complex problems and providing solutions that are innovative and to identify improvements to methods/processes and to implement them as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex technical information and systems issues to domestic/international partners verbally and in writing and mastering international intercultural business negotiations.
  • Professional certifications in relevant technical areas.
  • Experience in biological weapons nonproliferation and/or counter-bioterrorism policy, and an understanding of regulations and policies, international and domestic, related to dangerous biological materials.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering table-top exercises with a focus on biosecurity related capacity development.
  • Demonstrated success in securing sponsored funding to develop new initiatives, interacting with sponsors, and successfully carrying out biological/chemical threat reduction projects.
  • Active L or Q security clearance

Security Clearance
