What's the role?
This position will lead the development and execution of the strategic direction and management of one or more Investment products! This position networks extensively with the home office, field, industry and business partner's specific to the product line. An initial focus of this role will be strategy and design work related to Northwestern Mutual's wealth management proposals which involves competitive research, advisor feedback and co-creation, technical feasibility, and business case development.
You will be able to work with a passionate team of engineers, designers, data scientists and financial experts to define product vision, strategy and deliver experiences that drive business outcomes.

  • Set Product Vision: Synthesizes field and customer feedback, industry trends, and competitor products to help set direction for product evolution that fits the investment approach. Handles escalations of advisor issues, research as needed, and respond appropriately.
  • Develop Roadmap: Use field, client, and industry insight, to recommend, craft and develop new products and features. Maintains co-creation with the field throughout the product development process. Define and track critical metrics for measure of success across multiple products and stakeholders.
  • Gather Requirements: Gather higher level, more sophisticated product requirements with a general understanding/knowledge of products in remit. Review and validate requirements gathered within team.
  • Defines Product: Using in-depth knowledge of technology platforms available for investment products. Assesses available offerings and make decisions on which parts of the technology platforms fit Northwestern Mutual products.
  • Drives profitability for assigned products via sales growth, net cash flow, sound product design and managed expenses. Directs implementation of product design changes to advisor compensation, client pricing, rates, and partnerships.
  • Design Partnership: Partner with design to ensure cohesive future state user visions and experiences are aligned through a one-year vision with an understanding of the Design process.
  • Author User Stories: Translate requirements to technical details to build and validate use cases and user stories around a product and communicate them effectively.
  • Feature Prioritization: Develop and maintain multiple prioritized backlog of user stories for implementation according to business value or return on investment.
  • Data & Customer Research: Inform product decisions with both qualitative and quantitative data on our behavior and experimentation.
  • Facilitates Ceremonies: Facilitate daily Scrums, Sprint Planning Meetings and Sprint Reviews and Retrospectives.
  • Responsible for partnering across the home office on regulatory issues impacting assigned products. Recommends changes to products, programs, or processes to maintain compliance.
  • May manage a team of individuals and is responsible for their growth and development


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 6-8 Years of prior experience with at least 6 working in a Product Management Role, with agile team experience.
  • Knowledge Preferred: formal business analyst, engineering or testing experience, knowledge of the financial services industry, familiarity with BI tools, certification or experience with Product Owner or Scrum Master role, experience in leadership or mentorship of a team.
  • Proven experience within Wealth Management industry, including product, pricing, marketing, customer preferences, marketplace standards, broker-dealer offerings, future trends, and servicing
  • Previous experience demonstrated in cross functional work in along with strong communication skills, time management, project management skills, eye for business and high self-awareness/EQ.
  • Previous research experience, influence skills, initial leadership exposure, ability to translate product requirements into technical requirements, and work in ambiguity.
  • Solves unique problems with broad impact on the business; requires conceptual and innovative thinking to develop solutions.
