Overview
The Vice President, Humanities Publishing ("VP Publishing") will provide the leadership, experience, and strategic direction that enables Amplify to publish a K-12 Humanities core curriculum that will dramatically improve classrooms and win significant market share in major state and district adoptions across the US.
The VP Publishing will work with Amplify leadership across design, curriculum, engineering, sales, marketing, and implementation to drive product vision and collaborate to build and execute against the product roadmap, ensuring a successful product.
Responsibilities
Product Vision: The VP Publishing will help define the Amplify Humanities product through the lens of product-market fit and competitive market positioning. In making product decisions with the GM, the VP Publishing will serve as a voice of adoption committees, curriculum buyers, and Humanities teachers.
Product Development: The VP Publishing will oversee product development in software, print, and physical manipulatives, ensuring the product will be listed for adoption and ultimately purchased, is properly budgeted, and achieves good product-market fit. The VP Publishing will design testing programs to validate product decisions.
Print Product: The VP Publishing will manage design and development of the print and physical components (i.e., physical manipulatives) of the Amplify Humanities product.
Unified Product Experience: The VP Publishing will be responsible for working across the product teams (engineering, design, etc.) to shape products and services that are consistent from a user and external market perspective. This may include consistency with other Amplify core curriculum products, or with other Amplify Humanities -related products (i.e., Amplify Fractions and mClass).
Business Champion: The VP Publishing will be a visible leader for Amplify Humanities, championing the product with internal stakeholders including Sales management, the Executive team, and department leads. Working closely with Sales, the VP Publishing will incorporate and adapt to feedback from customers, teachers and students, as well as input from Amplify Sales and external subject experts. This includes riding along with Sales to classroom visits and district meetings.
The VP Publishing will track customer feedback, competitors and market trends, using the data to adapt and evolve Amplify Humanities such that the product experience supports Amplify in becoming a market leader.
To do all of this well, we think the VP Publishing needs to:

  • Be a compelling leader who will build trusted relationships with colleagues from wide-ranging disciplines
  • Coach a talented team to deliver at a high standard
  • Be focused on achieving outcomes related to producing a best in class product that complements Amplify's existing product suite
  • Exhibit judgement and expertise about how to design a winning product.


Our VP Publishing will have most of these qualifications:

  • You've worked in education at a leadership level - at a core publisher, an innovative product company, and/or in a school district.
  • You have first hand experience with, and understand the process for ensuring best practices are integrated into every aspect of a product's evolution
  • You combine outstanding relationship management skills with ruthless execution
  • You have managed a team, building a cohesive culture while holding them accountable for high performance goals
  • You have professional familiarity with the educational context of Amplify's constituencies
  • You share Amplify's commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Team: The VP Publishing will oversee the engineering team (via Product Owner and the Senior Engineer, who reports up through Engineering), the piloting team (via the Pilot Coordinator), and the design team (via the Product Designer, who reports up through Design). The VP Publishing may be assisted by a Product Manager.
