The Upstream Global Product Manager will help lead a team to develop and launch procedural solutions that drive new complex spine technologies, enhance, or create new procedures or therapies, and aid in increasing clinical and/or economic efficiencies for the customers we serve. In this role, the chosen candidate will work with world renowned spine surgeons, product development engineers, and a variety of cross functional colleagues to bring together Implants, Robotics, Image Guidance, and Artificial Intelligence to develop strategy and execute commercialization of global procedural solutions. As a cross-functional contributor and leader, you will work with different Regional Downstream Marketing across the globe, R&D, Regulatory, Clinical, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and other functional areas to identify key unmet needs, specifications, and value-added program solutions across the globe and will have the opportunity to collaborate globally through travel and cultural interactions to identify or update gaps in the portfolio and solve patient and surgeon problems. With an emphasis on brand messaging and creativity, the candidate will drive solutions for the next generation of spinal technology.

The Spine and Biologics business is headquartered in Memphis, TN. This role is open to remote for well qualified candidates within the US. Relocation assistance is offered!

A Day in the Life

  • Lead voice of customer investigations to identify and develop a strategy for next generation procedural solutions in spine.
  • Develop business cases and project feasibility and execute to commercialization.
  • Conduct market, sales, and financial analysis, including health economic value assessment for current and/or new markets, products, and procedure opportunities.
  • Work with the competitive intelligence group, R&D and regional downstream marketing to develop market/product research plans to generate and confirm clinical needs and customer requirements.
  • Work with Regional Downstream Marketing to both identify unmet downstream marketing needs and manage the launch and release of new products, markets and product claims (includes regional launch support, initial training, etc.). Identify and plan the Product Lifecycle evolution for the portfolio.
  • Provide global society trade show and locally hosted programs (i.e. CEP- customer experience program) support as needed. Utilize the opportunity at these events to understand and confirm market and clinical research trends
  • Conduct competitive position analysis of company products/procedures and recommend product styling, quality changes, inventory allocation, and price structures.
  • Learn and understand technical aspects of procedures/therapies from basic science, anatomy and read published clinical articles and interpret results.
  • Develop marketing deliverables as defined by Medtronic's global commercialization process such as Marketing Materials, Set Configurations, Inventory Approval Form, List Price Implementation, etc.
  • Develop, update, enhance creative brand through messaging and collateral development.
  • Develop and Execute dynamic pricing strategies with applicable team members.
  • Execute additional customer facing programs related to adult and pediatric scoliosis needs.


General responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned

  • Formulates and reviews corporate short and long-range plans, goals, and objectives for specific product or product line.
  • Determines the profitability and viability of new products or product enhancements.
  • Develops production and marketing strategies and tactics to ensure effective product placement relative to market opportunity, working closely with product development for a specific product, brand, or product area over its entire life cycle.
  • Works with other functions to finalize product specifications.
  • Provides advertising with core brand equity support.
  • Serves as technical support, demonstrating products and troubleshooting product issues.
  • Develops working knowledge of existing and future Robotics, Image Guidance, and Artificial Intelligence Platforms.
  • Travel will be required (maximum 35% of the time), both domestic and international



Must Have: Minimum Requirements
To be considered, these minimum requirements must be evident on your resume:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 4+ years of experience in marketing, sales, or technical role (or 2 years with a Master's degree)



Nice to Have

  • Business degree in Business, Science, Technology, Engineering or related field
  • Experience in Orthopedics and/or Spine marketplace
  • Experience in a marketing organization
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint experience desirable
  • Ability to multi-task while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills: ability to convey complex information in a simple and effective manner
  • Eagerness to learn and expand responsibilities
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary team environment and build strong working relationships
