Job summary
The Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Distribution team within the Software Production (SP) team is looking for a Technical Product Owner to join us. In this role, you will define the functional strategy for the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Distribution team. You will collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize their requirements. You will oversee and deliver Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) offerings to our customers and strategic partners using innovative tooling and infrastructure. You will partner with your release engineering, development, quality engineering (QE), and site reliability engineering (SRE) colleagues to streamline tooling, improve releases of our offerings, and guide team processes. You will focus on standardizing processes and creating solutions for product teams by delivering changes in a timely and methodical manner. You'll need to have passion for technology and development, balanced with the responsibility for improving the processes and procedures that support releases of our offerings. As a Technical Product Owner, you will need to work in a fast-paced and sometimes chaotic environment, with the goal of making our end users and customers more effective with each release.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Define the functional strategy for the team
  • Guide the mission, scope, and objectives of the team, so that the team can efficiently deliver the expected value
  • Work with external stakeholders to understand their requirements and prioritize those within the team
  • Design and guide new team processes to improve the quality, consistency, and automation of releases
  • Deliver content to Red Hat's customers and strategic partners; support multiple offerings and releases by helping to ensure that content is delivered on time and to specification
  • Contribute to release engineering tooling to deliver and improve the functionality
  • Help the team adopt continuous integration (CI) and continuous development (CD) methodologies
  • Work in a fast-paced environment where timely deliverables are as important as the big ideas for potential growth


Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience
  • Leadership experience; ability to set up and enforce team direction as well as experience collaborating with stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as you'll be working in a globally distributed team and communicating with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to directly interact with other teams
  • Ability to define, follow, and enforce processes and documentation
  • Ability to work under pressure, for example debugging and fixing issues during the releases of our offerings
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and understand criticism that directly impacts our business goals
  • Familiarity with agile methodology and tools like JIRA
  • Experience with Linux command line tools and utilities; knowledge of shell (Bash) and command line text processing, including grep, awk, sed, etc.
  • Familiarity with Python
  • Familiarity with Git or other version control systems
  • Basic understanding of the continuous integration (CI) process
  • Experience with automation tools and frameworks like Jenkins or Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform
  • Technical understanding of container platforms like Docker, Kubernetes, and Red Hat OpenShift


The following are considered a plus:

  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  • Experience with AWS
  • Previous experience releasing multiple offerings in a production environment
