As Sr Director of Product Management you will own the product vision, strategy, and delivery of our proprietary digital experience platform. You will lead a team that is tasked with providing a digital foundation used by a broad range of applications across multiple user channels and spanning several business lines. Your focus will be on connecting user experiences by building repeatable integration patterns and creating broadly leveraged platform services. You will accelerate application development by building out a Design System, UI Toolkit, and API catalog, and you will enforce rigid platform up-time and performance metrics. Your influence will be broad across the enterprise and you will need to influence Enterprise Architects, Software Engineers, Designers, Technology Vendors, and Business Partners using an agile framework to deliver user value and drive business outcomes. We are looking for a strong leader who has a proven track record of delivering on business strategy, and runs and develops high-performing teams. The ideal person will be someone who can operate in strategic initiatives and deliver tactically while demonstrating strong analytical and leadership skills. For the right candidate, this role presents an opportunity to build game-changing technology for Northwestern Mutual's Financial Advisors and Clients.
Responsibilities:

  • Set product strategy and influence acceptance and adoption of that strategy across enterprise Technology Teams (both product and engineering). Present strategy to broader teams and to executive leadership.
  • Manage the product line life cycle from the strategic planning to tactical initiatives for both vended and custom solutions.
  • Evaluate and select the right technologies that provide both velocity, developer productivity and stability for the business.
  • Specify the market requirements for both existing and future products based on market research realized through interactions with market intelligence, consumers, and prospective users.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with business partners including engineering, marketing, design, and sales to allow for the smooth and efficient flow of product activities.

Bring Your Best! What this role needs:

  • 10+ years relevant experience; preferably in a platform software development organization, implementing platform technology for Financial Advisors and Clients
  • Hands-on experience in the development of containerized applications and services with expertise in creating highly performing backend applications and delightful user interfaces
  • Validated experience with design patterns, APIs, web service technologies, applications, and application ecosystems
  • Extensive Experience with web services standards and related technologies (HTTP, XML, JSON, REST, SOAP, WS*) and authentication methods such as OAuth and SAML. Deep understanding of application architecture concepts
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Experience implementing Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery Tools (CI/CD)
  • Sets divisional priorities and allocates resources to align with business. Accountable for the performance and results of the team.
  • Consistent track record of launching successful platforms and common components for both internal consumption and for 3rd parties/clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to use both qualitative and quantitative data to back up assumptions and develop business cases.
  • Experience with and embraces Lean-Agile principles/DevOps environment.
  • Excellent customer experience intuition; demonstrated success in inventing creative and user-friendly products.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field required, Master's degree preferred
