Sr. Associate, Product Management, Card Fraud

Fraud – when a customer’s credit card or personal information is stolen – is a defining and increasingly frequent moment in our customers’ financial lives. According to Experian, in 2017 alone 14 million credit card numbers and 158 million social security numbers were exposed. Increasingly, this type of activity is carried out by sophisticated international criminal organizations, who are constantly innovating and using the latest technologies to commit these crimes. Here on the Fraud Foundation Team, we counter their efforts with real-time, automated, and intelligent technology of our own. Our mission is to unleash our analysts, data scientists, and investigators by making fighting fraud effortless and continuously more powerful. We do that by building consumer-grade, associate-facing products and platforms to automate fraud detection and associated actions, democratize access and understanding of our data, and enable new ways of discovering and extinguishing fraud rings.

We have several systems that are critical to Fraud: our cloud-native fraud defense automation platform: AIDE (Automated Intent Decision Engine). AIDE consumes real-time and batch data to detect fraud and trigger automated actions on accounts; our fraud investigator case management tool: OneShield. OneShield enables our fraud investigators to track their investigations and communicate with external Law Enforcement, so we can prosecute the fraudsters that have stolen money from Capital One and our customers and our operational data hub, which feeds data and features to our various systems in real time (

What you'll do:

  • Drive roadmap and delivery, to enable our vision of real-time, intelligent authentication experiences at every relevant customer touchpoint

  • Refine the vision, and execute accordingly

  • Work closely with a team of engineers and business partners to identify customer experience, technical, and operational needs and align on shared priorities

  • Spend 10-15% of time with investigators, analysts, front-line agents, and fraud intent/strategy leaders to deeply understand their workflow, pain points, and key opportunities to expand fraud coverage, and then incorporate the resulting understanding into the product vision and roadmap

  • Define and drive monitoring of platform health

  • Technologies your engineering team would be working with include our Streaming Data Platform, Spark, Kubernetes, and microservice architecture, among others

What you’ll bring:

  • A drive toward action and a proven track record of delivering minimum viable products to market at rapid speed

  • An understanding of and reverence for data and technical products

  • Excellent communication skills to navigate a matrixed organization, tell compelling stories with ease to senior executives, and inspire teams about things that should exist that don’t yet

  • Ability to proactively identify impediments on the critical path and remove them

  • A structured problem-solving approach to help a team work through a wide range of issues

  • Intellectual curiosity for emerging technologies and engineering challenges

  • Ability to prioritize across different types of value dimensions

  • Ability to actively seek out multiple opinions, yet make independent decisions and influence positive outcomes

  • Ability to keep the crowd warmed up while the team fixes the broken demo

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or military experience

  • At least 1 year of experience in product management, business analysis, data science, or software engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience managing products from inception to production

  • 2+ years of experience in shipping product

  • 1+ years of experience in platform management, software development, data technologies or AWS
