We are seeking a Senior Or Staff level Product Manager, Product Strategy to lead strategy projects in new growth initiatives in assay technologies and clinical solutions. The role collaborates with key stakeholders in product management, R&D, and business development to define product strategy to support Illumina's short and long-term objectives and leading market position.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct market landscape assessment to inform Illumina strategic approach for emerging technology growth opportunities in assays and clinical applications
  • Ability to deliver deep customer insights with key opinion leaders to inform strategy
  • Ability to strategically frame questions to get beyond the abstract and general to deliver rigorous, nuanced and actionable recommendations
  • Ability to deliver insightful data analysis & synthesis that uncovers customer and market opportunities
  • Serves as domain expert on emerging technology market participants in the assay technologies sector and act as a key voice on market landscape
  • Lead business case development with input from marketing & sales for M&A and partnering opportunities. Demonstrated ability to complete quantitative and qualitative analysis and financial models
  • Ability to work in a fluid environment and adapt project approaches as internal or external conditions change
  • Ability to plan and tightly manage the scope and lifecycle of a workstream while balancing multiple stakeholders
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, including experience with deep customer and stakeholder interviews
  • Demonstrate effective collaboration in matrixed or highly cross-functional business settings


Up to 20% travel may be required.

Preferred Educational Background:

Bachelors or Masters in genetics, molecular genetics, molecular biology, biomedical engineering, or related field.

Advanced degree, PhD or MBA a plus.

Preferred Experiential Background:
  • Minimum of 5-7 years total material experience, with time spent in a corporate strategy group or management consulting firm preferred
  • Previous marketing or business development experience desired
  • Experience with sequencing technology, life sciences tools, or similar products strongly preferred
  • Experience in and knowledge of molecular biology, in vitro diagnostics, medical devices
  • Ability to build business cases with quantitative market analytics, revenue, NPV and profitability projections
  • Must have strong analytical skills and ability to tie detailed analysis to larger strategy
  • Strong initiative, problem-solving ability and sense of ownership when driving projects to completion
  • Exceptional communications skills - with a proven ability to influence at all levels across a matrixed organization
