Your Rebel Team:
Product and Engineering: Rebellion's Product and Engineering teams work in close partnership to identify and understand our customers' pain points and needs and then to build products that solve their areas of concern. Leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning, Rebellion's products provide clearer visibility and more in-depth understanding of the threat landscape in order to support successful mission execution. Our products are designed to deliver comprehensive battlespace awareness, autonomous mission execution, and cyber readiness to our defense and national security customers.
How you'll make a difference in this role:
We are looking to hire an Offensive Security Engineer who will provide adversarial security testing expertise in support of building amazing solutions for the US Department of Defense and global allies. This Offensive Security Engineer role is part of the team developing our Nova product -- providing critical cybersecurity capabilities to protect our military network infrastructure from attacks.
The Offensive Security Engineer will pilot adversarial security testing capabilities (penetration tests, red team exercises) in customer environments. You will also conduct field research that will inform the product roadmap, and contribute directly to developing adversarial playbooks that allow the Nova product to perform advanced, automated security testing of customer networks and assets.
What your mission is:

  • Conduct adversarial security testing engagements in customer environments and on test ranges
  • Develop adversarial playbooks that enable the product to perform complex, automated security testing
  • Collaborate with software development teams to develop world-class adversarial security testing capabilities
  • Help protect the United States and its allies from sophisticated threats within the cyber domain
  • Work with the latest tools, on well-resourced teams, on the leading edge of security research, in defense of national security

You may be fit for this role if you:

  • Are passionate about improving the cybersecurity of the US national security infrastructure
  • Have worked in a penetration testing, red team, or offensive cyber operations capacity in a sensitive sector such as national security, critical infrastructure protection, financial services, or other high stakes environments
  • Strong proficiency with coding as well as reviewing and editing existing code using two or more modern programming and/or shell scripting languages. Examples include: PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ruby, C/C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, PHP. The full skillset of a professional software engineer is not required for this position, but fluency in coding is.
  • Are comfortable with planning and executing routine and novel attacks through all phases of the cyber attack lifecycle using both custom and off-the-shelf tools
  • Understand the tradeoffs between effective security testing and safety
  • Enjoy working as part of a cross-functional team
  • Are excited about working in an early stage startup environment
  • Are capable of rapidly learning new technologies in unfamiliar environments
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP stack and common network protocols (DNS, DHCP, etc)
  • Knowledge of Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) employed by adversaries (threat groups, "advanced persistent threats") of the United States and its allies
  • Proficiency with common penetration testing/red team tools such as NMAP, Kali Linux, CobaltStrike , Empire, Covenant, John the Ripper, Hydra, Metasploit, etc.

The Nature of our Work:
We are driving fast change to an extremely regulated industry. Many of the national security programs that are supported by Rebellion's products operate in secure environments and access to those spaces and the data in them may require an active personnel security clearance. It is a requirement of this position that you are able to obtain and hold a personnel security clearance at the right level. Additionally, this position may require up to 25% travel.
The annual salary range for this role as it is posted is $165,000 to $220,000 regardless of final candidate location within the US. The final job level and annual salary will be determined based on the education, qualification, knowledge, skills, ability, and experience of the final candidate(s), and calibrated against relevant market data and internal team equity. Benefits listed in this posting may vary depending on the nature of your employment with Rebellion Defense.
