UnitedHealthcare Community & State (C&S) is the largest health benefits company dedicated to providing diversified solutions to states that care for the economically disadvantaged, the medically underserved and those without benefit of employer-funded health care coverage. The incumbent in this position supports the C&S Care Management Implementations and Business Analysis Lead efforts.
The Senior Product Owner will work closely with the C&S Medicaid Care Management leadership to identify functional requirements and advise the business on best systematic practices for large projects with cross functional impact. A Product Owner works closely with Solution Architects and the Scrum Team to better understand how a system works to ensure that documented requirements are met. The Senior Product Owner works within an Agile work stream translating requirements into solutions for the clinical application.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for successful creation delivery and optimization of Care Modernization solutions in support of strategic business initiatives with focus on high quality and value - technology solution, data and consumer touchpoints
  • Collaborate with applicable stakeholders to obtain appropriate market information/data and define consumer and business needs
  • Partner with appropriate teams to coordinate solution research activities (secondary and primary)
  • Drive prototype development and user testing
  • Partner with technology teams on the creation of requirements and user stories
  • Participate in agile process to ensure business vision is being accurately implemented and meet market expectations
  • Ensure solutions are delivered on time and on budget, including identifying and resolving risks and issues.
  • Utilize related analytics, testing and design of experiments (A/B, Multivariate) to advance products and experiences
  • Define and ensure consumer and performance measures are appropriately in place and utilized to derive insights/advance the product roadmap.
  • Utilize influencing skills to build a collaborative culture and foster relationships with both internal and external strategic partners with focus on innovation, growth and continuous improvement.
  • Have an understanding of how user-experience (UX) and content strategy need to come together for an optimal experience
  • Constantly keeping up-to-date on clinical trends and best practices.
  • Responsible for healthcare software application configuration
  • Assess, interpret, and analyze customer needs and requirements
  • Provide analytical support and expertise needed to translate clinical requirements into technical solutions
  • Solves complex problems and/or conducts complex analysis
  • Oversees writing and documenting business requirements in Epics/Features and User Stories
  • Leads, motivates and develops a team of 6-8 product owners

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree and/or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of experience as a Business Analyst/Product Owner facilitating and documenting requirements (such as process flows, use cases, and/or business requirement documents) gathered from both business and technology counterparts
  • 5+ years of problem-solving experience, including prioritizing multiple tasks, priorities, projects, and deadlines
  • 3+ years healthcare work experience with Medicaid populations and Medicaid Care Management
  • 2+ years of experience working with all phases of Agile, including Epic and User Story development
  • Experience gathering business requirements from business leadership


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Testing (UAT) experience
  • Experience mentoring and/or developing staff
  • Experience with Jira
  • Experience with Guiding care
  • Experience with use and configuration of healthcare software applications (preferably clinical software)
  • Experience as a Solutions Analyst
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize deliverables
  • Ability to quickly learn and use computer software tools effectively (Healthcare/Medicaid)
  • Proven ability to work in a highly virtual and matrixed environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - must be able to communicate ideas and analysis in a clear concise fashion to clients, colleagues and senior business leaders

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $97,300 to $176,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $97,300 to $176,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
