About the job
The Red Hat Developers Business Unit is looking for an experienced Senior Product Manager to join us. In this role, you will manage the developer experience across various languages and frameworks as well as containerized developer tooling spanning podman, Kubernetes, and Red Hat OpenShift. Location is flexible, though it is limited to eastern North America and Europe. You'll be a part of a team managing the future of cloud-native development experiences. You'll focus on the developer's total experience with the tooling of their choice and how it connects to our platforms, uses our products, and is enhanced by those interactions. As a Principal Product Manager, you will work with products and projects like Red Hat OpenShift, OpenShift Builds (v1 and next generation), Shipwright, Source-to-Image, Cloud Native Buildpacks, buildah, kaniko and more. You will also work with open source and partner integration across solutions like GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps Pipelines, GitLab CI/CD, and Jenkins.
Red Hat is an enterprise software company with an open source development model. Given that, product management lives with one foot in the world of global enterprises, and the other foot in the open source community. Beyond the function of the job, Red Hat has a unique and solid culture: transparency, humble confidence, and challenging (but empathetic) discussions are how we get things done. Collaboration is a given, so the people who thrive at Red Hat use that sense of partnership and shared purpose to their advantage.
What you will do

  • Manage and advocate for the developer experience for application containerized builds on Kubernetes
  • Expand Red Hat OpenShift build capabilities to meet customers' current and growing needs, using Kubernetes extension capabilities
  • Meet with customers, partners, and analysts to gather input on the projects development teams are focused on, where they're finding success and where they're struggling
  • Use outside-in data to feed and maintain a vision for the developer experience our users will enjoy either using directly to build their containerized applications or seamlessly integrate with their CI tooling
  • Work continually to turn that vision into a set of clearly articulated and rigorously prioritized epics and stories that can be delivered by multiple engineering teams working on core platform build, customer experience, and migration of previous solutions
  • Work directly with all stakeholders to ensure that backlog priorities are in alignment with corporate strategies
  • Track and report on the progress of work from a product delivery and market impact perspective; feed that data back into plans and micro-adjustments
  • Engage with marketing teams across the company and at partners to provide a clear and concise "why" for the solutions and enhancements we release

What you will bring

  • Experience as an enterprise software or Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) product manager, or a software engineer with a solid focus on strategy and product vision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with open source projects, processes, and business models
  • Deep knowledge of engineering team processes focused on agile or Scrum, tools, and challenges
  • Ability to make and defend hard trade-offs between time-to-market, community engagement, and product features
  • Understanding of developers and developer tooling, along with the overall software development life cycle
  • Experienced with current software development tools for containerized builds
  • Proven record of influencing others without having direct authority over them
  • Willingness to travel about 25% in line with Red Hat's COVID-19 guidelines
