Job Description

SUMMARY: The Product Owner is accountable for working with cross-functional development teams and business stakeholders to define and implement business strategies, product roadmaps, service offerings and new features. This is a hands-on and strategic role which requires in-depth knowledge of the financial services sector, emerging trends in the banking industry and has experience collaborating with agile teams. The candidate should have the ability to develop a product strategy, business cases and a roadmap in collaboration with users, agile design teams and external vendor partners. The Product Owner contributes to the long-term profitability of the Sales business line by establishing performance goals and work practices which drive the design and development of high-quality end-to-end Salesforce product and user experiences. The Product Owner will own and continuously refine the Salesforce product backlog and prioritize items for delivery based on value to business. Additionally, will act as primary liaison between the business and agile teams, ensuring the teams understand the vision for the products. Works closely in a hands-on style with the development team including addressing daily prioritization needs, provides real-time feedback and answers questions on an ongoing basis. Works with Product Management to set release dates, determines when sufficient value has been delivered to release to market, understands tradeoffs between schedule, scope and budget and communicates this information to the organization. Employs product management practices and tactics including customer research, data and analytics and market research.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and special projects may be assigned.
  • Enable Key Initiatives: * Collaborates with internal and external business partners providing input in identifying and affecting product demand, assists in driving the product roadmap, backlog prioritization and leverages industry best practices. * Manages communications and status reporting of ongoing initiatives, including summarizing project risks and options and facilitates prompt decisions when needed. * Supports the definition of the overall Salesforce product strategy and technology roadmap to drive P L goals for specific Sales capabilities. * Independently resolves highly complex, multi-faceted problems, which are often unstructured and without precedent to meet the business needs of the end users. * Works with the Program Delivery team to formulate costs and funding requests, proposals. * Leads a team that focuses on business value and impact, as well as, client-centric model. Must have holistic data, analytics and end-to-end consideration at all times.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders and technology teams to enable solutions: * Ensures product delivery is relevant and of high quality, eliminating the need for workarounds. Identifies capabilities, features, value proposition and potential risks for the product vision, working with stakeholders to produce high quality business solutions. * Communicates progress, elicits feedback and enables stakeholder reviews for validation. Manages engagement with stakeholders and effectively communicates product release features and expected product capabilities within the customer journey. * Plays a leadership role in the scrum team, works closely with their scrum master to ensure that product features are delivered on-time and aligned to business stakeholder expectations. * Attends agile ceremonies (i.e. planning sessions, stand-ups, retrospectives, iteration reviews) and other team meetings in order to provide necessary guidance and verify that the output of the delivery team is consistently delivering business value and aligned with the agreed upon commitments. * Creates and communicates product roadmaps for the delivery team. Works collaboratively with other product owners and scrum masters within the larger team to ensure business objectives are aligned and consistency in delivery. Supports the team by being available to provide clarity required to complete detailed user stories. * Acts as primary reviewer and approver of finished development work during demos/reviews based on established acceptance criteria. Facilitates problem solving as required, works closely with the delivery team on implementation changes. * Coaches team members and creates an environment that lends itself to self-organizing activities. Identifies and manages business activities (training, communication) required to support agile initiatives. Thinks strategically beyond in-scope scrum activities, providing innovative ideas to challenge or extend current product vision.
  • Identify opportunities and champion best-in-class business transformation and innovation: * Defines, leads and executes a cohesive transformation strategy designed to limit technological debt and to effectively manage transition from segregated platforms to a single platform adoption, while modernizing technology stacks and automated workflows. * Works closely with internal/external leads and partners to ensure execution quality and success. * Ability to manage large-scale initiatives and effectively partner with stakeholders across business and technical teams. * Continually acquires and enhances knowledge of both the Bank's and the Sales Division's business strategies and policies, risk management practices and methodologies, product offerings, financial markets, financial instruments, regulatory requirements, back-office processes, and rapidly changing technology to be able to provide effective business solutions, services and support to the end user business lines. * Works with technology partners on architecture reviews and ensures solutions are aligned (build-once, multiple re-use) and escalates on any misalignment. * Works with other internal and external partners on business architecture, operating protocols, vendor management, technology adoption, contract negotiations. * Maintains an understanding of financial services markets, the competitive landscape and client/user needs and requirements.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, finance or computer related major preferred
  • MBA preferred
  • 6+ years direct relevant working experience in the financial sector
  • 6+ years direct experience in delivery of complex, multidisciplinary projects, ideally in a leadership capacity
  • 6+ years of experience in one or more of the following: Product management, product development, strategic planning, process management, change delivery or agile product owner
  • In depth knowledge of Salesforce platforms with demonstrated strength delivering effective solutions from concept to execution at scale in a cross line of business or enterprise environment
  • Salesforce development experience preferred
  • Tableau development experience a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex, technical concepts so that they are clearly understood in support of sound decisions to meet business objectives
  • 4+ years direct experience within an agile framework and Jira experience is preferred


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Industry certifications such as SAFe, CSPO and PSPO are preferred
