Do you have a passion for animals? Enjoy bringing new products to life through innovation and research? Desire to work in a growing company with big goals? Chewy is looking for a Product Development (R&D) Manager – Consumables to join our Chewy Proprietary Brands Team.

What You’ll Do:

• Formulate products, conduct designs of experiments, attend test run developments, interpret chemistry results, feed study results and statistical analysis, and ensure products are developed within nutrition guidelines.
• Create label information, ingredient list and substantiating label claims.
• Provide technical support and research feasible ingredients used in formulating specialty pet products.
• Help in delivering projects success with technical feasibility, commercial feasibility, and consumer acceptance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve formulation challenges with Research & Development and cross-functional teams.
• Take Customer Insights to create products that truly serve our Customers and their needs.
• Be instrumental as a product lifecycle guardian of Chewy Proprietary Brands by ensuring existing products are competitive in the marketplace through the utilization of customer feedback and in-depth market analysis.
• Review the PB Portfolio and make recommendations to current product line up to improve market penetration and customer acceptance.

What You’ll Need:

• BS in Science (e.g., Food Science, Meat Science, Animal Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Packaging).
• 1-3 years of experience working in product development of private label or branded pet products.
• Knowledge of AAFCO and labeling requirements.
• Ability to learn about the pet specialty category quickly and efficiently.
• Willingness to travel up to 30%.

Bonus (if applicable):

• Masters in Food Science or equivalent discipline.
• Knowledge of USDA and FDA regulations as they relate to standards of identity, ingredients, nutrition labeling and label claims would be a plus.
• Professional and academic networks in the fields of bird food, small animal feed, equine food, and supplements.
