Caterpillar's Industrial Power Systems division has an exciting opportunity for a Product Telematics Architect. In this role, you will serve as Telematics Architecture lead in the development of End to End Telematics and service offerings. They will make recommendations and drive decisions in the telematics and digital space which will impact strategy, architecture, and feature implementation.
JOB DUTIES:
For Caterpillar, digital means using technology to extract data from our machines and engines and transform it into valuable recommendations or "insights," to help customers make better, more informed decisions and help Caterpillar make robust products with the lowest total ownership cost. Our products generate and process large amounts of data from sensors, on-board models, and control algorithms in real-time creating real-world engine usage information. Telematics helps to get the right data at the right time transmitted off engines and machines to support our Dealers and Customers along with enabling Caterpillar to improve our products and business.
The Product Telematics Architect is recognized within Caterpillar as domain expert in Telematics. Incumbents demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature engineering judgment as they anticipate and solve unprecedented engineering problems, determine program objectives and requirements, organize programs and projects, and develop standards and guidelines for Telematics activities.
Decisions made at this level are far reaching and may affect the teams with whom they consult, Caterpillar business and future markets. Decisions may have significant impact on things such as warranty, patents, leveraging new technologies, sales and customer perception. Some of the key challenges facing this position are: leveraging knowledge to others; balancing short-term thinking against long-term strategy; developing strategic partners; delivering state-of-the-art design, development, and research projects.
The Product Telematics Architect will have design authority at the project level with responsibilities that include:
- Providing architectural strategy for a Telematics System
- Understanding and communicating system non-functional guidelines
- Provide requirements for customer desired service features
- Evaluating design alternatives for new features
- Ensuring clear documentation of current system architecture and guidelines
- Ensuring validation of telematics system, including UI, onboarding and hardware
- Ensuring security architecture is maintained
- Investigating future features to evaluate and build architectural runway
- Serve as a resource to help teams make sound design decisions during feature implementations and issue resolution
- Aide in designing and building rapid prototyping applications to evaluate new functionality requests
Basic Requirements:
- Requires an accredited BS in Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical engineering degree
- Must have 8 years' experience in design, development, validation or analysis of engines, Aftertreatment or Power systems
- 4 years of (concurrent) experience in data driven engine health and condition monitoring analysis/development.
- Requires a self-starter with strong technical, communication and vision leadership skills.
Top Candidate Will Also Have:
- Highly Qualified Candidates will have an advanced Engineering degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Extended experience in End to End Telematics space is desired
- Must have ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members in the work group, in the business, as well employees in other business units, customers and suppliers.
- Excellent analytical skills
