Position Overview

The Product Owner is to work in a highly dynamic environment, engaging and coordinating the activities with internal stakeholders, collaborators, software developers, contractors, and third-party vendors for the flawless development of critical software products and its implementation for a Genomics CLIA laboratory.

This role helps drive the various initiatives and products by collaborating with stakeholders, project managers, and development to ensure requirements/features sets are complete, clear, documented, and translated to the technical team.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide end-user support in response to service requests, as needed.
  • Gather and document feature requests/business requirements for all projects, ensuring that requirements gathering discussions and activities have been completed.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and project team to prioritize collected requirements, sprint planning, and backlog refinement.
  • Translate conceptual user requirements into functional requirements, epics, and use case stories in a clear manner that is comprehensible to developers/scrum team.
  • Proactively understand the current processes and conceptualize solutions to create efficiencies around them.
  • Assist with the planning, scheduling, and tracking of sprints and deliverables using appropriate tools for multiple software development and implementation projects.
  • Work closely with offshore and onshore software development teams to manage the progress of the software development projects.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirement documentation, and presentations.
  • Manage and track the status of requirements throughout the product and development lifecycle; enforce and redefine, as necessary.
  • Create process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to developers and/or the project team.
  • Provide business area expertise to developers during the design, coding, and testing phases of software projects.
  • Provide insight to the Quality Assurance (QA) team for system test plans, conditions, test scripts, and test cases.
  • Maintain business systems standards by applying Agile methods, tools, and processes as standard practice.
  • Create and deliver user documentation and end-user training, if needed.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Support and comply with the company's Quality Management System policies and procedures.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to act with an inclusion mindset and model these behaviors for the organization.
  • Ability to work seated for approximately 50% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 95% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work on a computer and phone simultaneously.
  • Ability to travel 10% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field as outlined in the essential duties.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Project Manager, and Project Coordinator.
  • 2+ years of direct work experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or Business Analyst in genomics, healthcare, or in a laboratory.
  • 3+ years of experience in Agile/Scrum or equivalent software development lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring product/project to successful completion using a process- and people-oriented methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to read communication styles of team members and contractors who come from a broad spectrum of disciplines.
  • Technically competent with various software programs, such as Jira, Confluence, Visio, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work on multiple software development products/projects at the same time.
  • React to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently.
