Upwork ($UPWK) is the world’s work marketplace. We help connect companies large and small with top independent talent from around the world. Simply put, our mission is to create economic opportunities so people have better lives.

Every year, more than $2 billion of work is done through Upwork by skilled independent professionals who want the freedom of working anytime, anywhere.

The Payments team at Upwork is responsible for over $2.3 billion in pay-ins and payouts per year in 180 countries. Our payment system is a strategic business differentiator and a crucial part of our business. The team handles orders, subscriptions, billing, invoicing, revenue recognition, taxes, shopping cart, payments, restricted party screening and compliance for the entire customer life cycle on a single platform.

We are looking for a collaborative, product manager that will continue to evolve our AML compliance experiences (e.g. KYC, Sanction Screening), tax services & payment tools. The AML compliance domain is sophisticated, and as a global service provider we need to address a variety of legal and governmental requirements that differ across regions and countries. Operating optimally worldwide requires that we address these requirements with high quality execution.

Your Responsibilities:

  • You will closely work with design, engineering and other partners in prioritizing different solutions, writing user-stories and preparing the organization for product launches from a risk perspective.
  • Build entirely new experiences that address the emerging needs of Upwork’s largest and most demanding customers and growing regulatory landscape and requirements.
  • Evaluate and be responsible for the Compliance experience and results, track critical metrics and use them to drive decision-making about what's next.
  • You will solve long-standing and difficult user problems by breaking down many of the fundamental assumptions that went into the design of Upwork’s Compliance processes and platform.
  • You'll deeply understand & keep up to date on the global regulatory environment, what the competitive landscape looks like & how the freelancer marketplace markets are evolving and industry dynamics.
  • Excellent product management skills with a consistent track record in understanding customer needs, working across a variety of functional teams, developing solutions, and launching products that impact growth.
  • You have strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the savvy to influence and communicate effectively.
  • You have a strong focus on the customer as well as the business, coupled with an ability to learn, respond to feedback and grow. We’re looking for people who grow through learning new domains and don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions.
  • Experience in BSA / AML and other Compliance is a requirement

What it takes to catch our eye:

  • CAMS Certification
  • BSA/AML compliance subject matter experience and background
  • AML or Compliance experience internationally
  • Experience at Marketplace or similar companies
