The Product Manager - Discovery and Usage is responsible for connecting learners to library resources by supporting the development and management of technology and content initiatives at Gale that increase the discovery, use, and value of Gale offerings across all markets. We need an innovator to help us level-up our reach in discovery and improve the range and ease of access to our products.

As part of the Global Subscriptions team, this role will have a strategic focus on supporting the Gale Research Complete program, ensuring that this crucial suite of resources is optimized for access in the library. As the business owner of COUNTER for Gale, this role will also ensure that libraries receive usage data that allows them to make meaningful decisions about how they serve their end users. You will be encouraged to contribute ideas and feedback on areas outside your key Discovery and Usage remit.

Working in an Agile development environment, this position embraces concept work, builds and supports investment cases, and works closely with software developers, external partners, content architects and engineers, and other team members to define specifications and ensure quality throughout the development cycle. The ideal candidate understands the future of library management and discovery systems and has a passion for helping Gale's library customers be successful, while embracing the needs of the ultimate customer, the end user.
Key Responsibilities

  • Enable researchers to find and use relevant content where and when they need it, through your familiarity with library discovery systems, knowledge bases, metadata standards and APIs.
  • Serve as primary business contact with external discovery partners (e.g. Ex Libris, EBSCO), establish good working relationships with partners, and supervise developments in the library market to identify new discovery partners.
  • Support customer-facing teams by advancing discovery issues requiring technical support to partners when required. Define and implement roadmaps to improve the discoverability of Gale resources within partner systems.
  • Serve as primary business contact with COUNTER, keeping up to date with the latest developments in consistent, credible and comparable usage monitoring. Proactively develop projects to keep Gale ahead of the curve in this area.
  • Analyze usage for Gale Research Complete, working with cross-functional teams, including our in-house Data Scientist. Identify insights that can support the roadmap for the team.
  • Work closely with Content Engineering to ensure timely and accurate delivery of metadata to discovery partners and troubleshoot errors.
  • Work with Director, Product Management, as well as external partners, software developers, UX, content engineers, marketing, sales and customer engagement, and other departments to ideate, develop, test, and iterate new offerings or refinements to existing capabilities.
  • Analyse the user workflow for discovering and accessing Gale resources, identify and implement areas for improvement and use data to measure results and communicate value to both internal and external partners.
  • Fulfill the role of Product Owner in regular standup meetings, planning sessions, and retrospective reviews during active software development projects. Prioritize support issues, bugs, and enhancement requests.
  • Stay versed in industry trends and devise ongoing product improvements and monitor and mine product analytics such as usage metrics, Google Analytics, satisfaction data, customer feedback, competitive analysis, and market research.
  • Support the Sales Department by conducting in-person and online training sessions for inside and field reps and by conducting customer webinars. As necessary, accompany sales reps and represent Gale at trade shows and conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the business.
