So, what’s the role?

We are looking for an ambitious Product Director to join and lead our product team. As a Product Director, you will immerse yourself in both our customer experience and internal stakeholder’s experience (sales, customer service, underwriting, claims, accounting). You will have a deep understanding of how customers buy and manage their insurance policy, as well as how Kin provides customers with services and support for their insurance needs. You will be identifying opportunities to improve all aspects of the customer journey. You will partner with stakeholder and technology colleagues to research, validate, and present your proposals, then execute on those approved and prioritized. You will lead the team through a myriad of experiences and challenges inherent to innovation, and be the strategic voice of reason for all critical product decisions. Your ability to coach, mentor and motivate both direct and indirect reports will be paramount to the upskilling of everyone on your team.   

Your objective in this role is to inspire and oversee product management within your specific domain. You will play a key role in defining and implementing the product vision and strategy. Your success and career growth will hinge on your ability to build effective working relationships with Kin leadership in order to inspire and influence decision making that will shape the future of Kin. You believe in Kin’s mission and are passionate about improving the lives of our customers, agents and other Kin personnel. You are continuously looking for ways to improve the product development process at Kin, aligning the team closer to our customers and stakeholders. When you see barriers to success, you find ways to push through them, always in a professional, courteous and inspirational way. 

A day in the life could include: 

  • Working closely with Kin leaders to define and communicate the Product vision 
  • Owning your specific domain’s long term product strategy, balancing the business needs, regulatory hurdles and technical constraints 
  • Driving prioritization of products, features, and enhancements and owning the short, mid, and long-term roadmaps that align to the strategy 
  • Leading and mentoring Senior Product Managers, Product Managers and Product Analysts 
  • Initiating and implementing process improvements for product development as well as for business stakeholders
  • Presenting recommendations to senior leadership and ensuring stakeholders are kept informed on product process and progress
  • Partnering with Engineering and Design leaders to continuously identify ways to improve how we work and solving major team or platform challenges
  • Conducting staffing and resource analyses, preparing recommendations to support future business growth
  • Reviewing and evaluating product proposals from Senior Product Managers and Product Managers, ensuring that analytical and financial rigor have been applied to all proposals
  • Digging deep to understand the most significant problems that face our users and working with design and engineering to develop and test solutions, supported with data
  • Partnering closely with the development team to socialize your product plans, and collaborate with them to not only size the work, but also how to make it better through collaboration 
  • Defining, evangelizing, and monitoring metrics that demonstrate product success
  • Coordinating and leading regular team and stakeholder meetings to both gather feedback on your projects and to share important updates
  • Ensuring the successful rollout, growth, and success of your features, with communications and training to appropriate users/stakeholders across the business

I’ve got the skills… but do I have the necessary ones?

  • 8+ years of professional experience
  • 8+ years of software or technology product management experience
  • 3-6 years of experience coaching people, building and leading teams
  • Extensive experience working with agile product and engineering teams in startup and/or rapid-growth environments
  • Demonstrated success in defining the product strategy and delivering results in a fast-pace environment 
  • Expertise in working with big data and BI tools (ex. Adobe, Tableau, Looker)

      • Ability to turn incomplete, conflicting, or ambiguous inputs into concrete action plans

      • Ability to create cost / benefit analyses for both large and small scale projects, and use the outputs to guide product and feature prioritization
      • Technical proficiency; deep understanding of tradeoffs between different technical approaches and the ability to explain those to leadership and other stakeholders
      • Effective and concise written and verbal communication skills
      • Proficient project management skills and well organized

      • Executive presence to influence teams and leaders at all levels 
      • Inspire and bring together key stakeholders across the organization
      • Able to communicate with empathy and precision
      • Has a positive mindset and works collaboratively 
      • Stays cool under pressure and can manage tight deadlines

      • Eager and willing to learn, improve, and ask questions

Bonus Points:

  • Experience working for an InsurTech or Fintech company
  • MarTech or A/B testing and other experimentation experience
  • Basic wireframing and design prototyping
