As the Principal Product Manager within Digital Product, you will help launch Northwestern Mutual's first native digital banking product. You will drive core product innovation as an expert in building payment platform integrations. In this role, you will use knowledge that is both deep and wide and can be leveraged to build the tools and experiences that empower advisors and help clients achieve those dreams. You'll work with a hardworking team of engineers, designers, data scientists and financial experts that define the product vision, strategy and deliver an experience that drives business outcomes. This position is ideal for someone with lots of fintech and neobank experience that wants to have a greater impact - you'll be launching this product for our 4+ million customers!
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Set Product Vision : Accountable for the long-term vision of our digital banking product including multi-year funding strategies tied to the business outcomes. Cultivate an understanding of what digital banking is at Northwestern Mutual and how it surfaces in experiences.
- Develop Roadmap : Share in the development of our overall digital consumer product roadmap while being the primary owner of the digital banking product roadmap. Define and track success using frameworks like Objective Key Results (OKR's).
- Gather Requirements : Accountable for gathering all the requirements across the company to launch and build features for the new digital banking product. This includes technical requirements from our partner company, developers, enterprise architecture, design etc. as well as non-technical requirements from legal, compliance, marketing, sales (financial advisors), etc.
- Define the Product : Set the initial definition of what the digital product is from how it looks, why someone would want it, and how it works all the way through to how it's maintained and serviced.
- Stakeholdering : Proactive communication and marketing of domain products with stakeholders to ensure product strategy and vision is clear and accepted by the organization.
- Design Partnership : Work with our award-winning internal design team to mockup the initial product for launch in Figma or Sketch and continue iterating on it based on user feedback with a dedicated set of designers.
- Feature Prioritization : Develop and maintain a prioritized backlog of user stories with the engineering team in Jira.
- Data & Customer Research : Inform product decisions with both qualitative and quantitative data on behavior and experimentation.
- Facilitate Ceremonies : Facilitates with their team the daily Scrums, Sprint Planning Meetings and Sprint Reviews and Retrospectives.
- Resolution : Identify and resolve issues that may impair the ability to meet strategic, financial, and/or technical goals.
Bring Your Best! What this role needs:
- 9-14 years of prior experience with at least 9 working in a Product Management Role, with agile team experience.
- Demonstrated successful cross-functional work in previous experience along with excellent communication, time management, and project management experience, strong business acumen and high self-awareness/EQ. Along with previous research experience required, influence skills, previously proven successful leadership partnerships, expert in translating product requirements into technical requirements, and a high ability to work in ambiguity and solution effectively.
- Proactively identifies and solves the most complex problems; uses ground-breaking methods to think beyond existing solutions.
- Knowledge Preferred: Knowledge of the financial services industry, and banking Familiarity with BI tools; Certification or experience with Product Owner or Scrum Master role; Experience in leadership or mentorship of a team; Multiple years working in complex, cross-functional companies managing multiple products and PMs.
- Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
