We are looking for a Materials Product Manager to join our team in Watertown, MA. Markforged is reinventing manufacturing, and we are looking for an enthusiastic and business-minded materials expert to own the portfolio of thermoplastic and composite materials that will enable us to continue accomplishing this mission. If you have experience developing materials products, thrive in fast-paced environments, and are excited by the notion of driving an expansion of our materials portfolio from definition through launch, then we want you to join our team.

What will you own?

  • Write clear and concise product requirements for new materials based on insights that intersect customer, technology, and business
  • Become an expert on our materials, their use-cases, and our customers through qualitative (e.g. interviews) and quantitative (querying data) research
  • Develop strong knowledge of AM and traditional manufacturing, benchmark competitors, and identify emerging trends that are relevant to our products
  • Communicate the product vision and business justification in a clear and compelling way to executives, engineers, sales, and other stakeholders across the organization
  • Partner with Engineering and Program Management throughout development to ensure alignment on priorities, provide context, and make tradeoff decisions whenever needed
  • Help guide Go-to-market strategy and support product launches as the primary technical resource for content creation and post-launch technical questions
  • Own ongoing market performance and support of the materials portfolio, working across the business to drive activities spanning new sales strategies to second sourcing efforts.

Important Note:

Although we list out what we generally look for, we are very likely missing other attributes and skills that you have that could make you a great fit, but are not currently listed. Research has shown this especially applies to women and other marginalized groups, who tend to apply if they check 100% of every box, versus men who apply if they hit roughly 60%. The point we’re getting at, it doesn’t hurt to take a chance and apply!

What you have:

  • Bachelors or higher in material science, chemistry, physics or engineering
  • Experience developing and launching thermoplastic or composite materials products
  • Demonstrated passion for solving customer problems and ownership over outcomes
  • Analytical and data-driven approach to decision making
  • Ability to establish credibility and lead through influence up, down, and across
  • Comfort in a fast-paced environment with a bias towards action
  • Experience in the manufacturing industry a strong plus
