Role Summary
Manager - Product Line is role responsible for the delivery of a portfolio of products that are commercially successful and profitable by acting as an investment manager, directing where Magna Electronics should invest its limited resources in manufacturing, engineering, sales and CAPEX in order to receive a profitable return and be best positioned in the market for long term success.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for implementing a portfolio of products that are commercially successful and profitable by acting as an investment manager, directing where Magna should invest its limited resources in manufacturing, engineering, sales and CAPEX in order to receive a profitable return and be best positioned in the market for long-term success. Able to lead initiatives for the business in ways that generate organization-wide understanding and support; assists the Group Vice President by driving profitable growth and Magna positioning.
- Responsible for leading and communicating the strategic direction for assigned product family & developing the corresponding business plans; Manages the Product Portfolio Roadmap (PPR); Responsible for aligning Product Groups and Functional heads to optimize management of resources for growth and profitability; formulates & documents business cases for investments in R&D, capital, manufacturing capacity, & acquisitions.
- Sets the overall direction for customer proposals and quotations within the product line; influences customers to align product roadmaps with Magna product line objectives; ensures customer proposals meet strategic objectives of product line; works with engineering to determine best technical proposal for customer pursuits.
- Conducts strategic reviews to ensure the execution of the strategic plans; defines clear milestones and metrics to assess the performance of strategic initiatives; tracks and delivers results to Sr. Leadership Team.
- Responsible for identifying relevant product & market trends, new market development opportunities, & leading process of assessing new market opportunities for assigned product portfolio whether newly explored technologies or expansions of existing products into new regions; identifies M&A activities as required to support the portfolio.
- Responsible for collecting market & competitor intelligence and ensuring such tools are used to enhance strategic decision making; support regions & product groups with required market research; Ensures information is used to drive decisions & action plans; works closely with the Sales Team to share critical customer information and to establish & monitor sales targets; communicating customer needs in the form of new product performance objectives; serves as a key resource / solution provider to customers in helping them improve their business.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
Education/Experience
- BA/BS Degree in engineering or related technical field required; Master's in Engineering or MBA preferred.
- 7+ years of experience (2-3+ years in a leadership role) in automotive engineering environment, including at least two of the following: product design, product development, and product validation (automotive electronics products and systems experience preferred) with a demonstrable track record of results.
- Experience with collaborative global engineering teams and/or foreign assignments preferred.
Technical Knowledge
- Understanding and involvement with product development, business case analysis, commercial issues, profit and loss analysis, financial reporting preferred.
- Evidence of strategic thinking, planning, and project management skills; Ability to thrive in highly dynamic, time-sensitive, and collaborative environment; Good business sense and the ability to quickly learn and analyze new markets.
