Bring your passion for product and technology to help us ensure that the consumer is at the center of all of our work. Core functions of the digital product management team includes developing product charters, developing and maintain product roadmaps, defining product features based on external and internal needs, maintaining a backlog of user stories, working with integrated design and development teams to deliver functionality, reporting on product performance, staying abreast of competing products, and communicating with external users and internal stakeholders across the organization.
Position in this function designs, develops, and manages activities for a specific product or group of products from product definition and planning through production, release, and end of life. Responsible for the full product lifecycle management, with a technical focus, including strategy, design, development, management, and end of life of new, existing or acquisition products. Leverage market insights to understand market/customer needs as well as emerging technology developments and trends to identify new opportunities or make adjustments to current product offerings. Balances deep subject matter expertise in the product, business use cases and solid technical aptitude. Accountable for delivering product performance against expectations and updates changes to a product portfolio to improve competitive position, and optimal product performance to meet customer and market needs. Accountable to and/or own the P&L. Responsible for cross-functional stakeholder management to include but not limited to design, engineering, scrum teams, business leaders, etc., functioning as technical expert with a fluency in development concepts and modern development practices. Positions in this function may require a background or degree in computer science or engineering. Reviews the work of others. Develops innovative approaches. Sought out as expert. Serves as a leader/ mentor.
The Digital Product Manager works closely with leadership from Optum's experience design, information technology, marketing, operations, business teams to deliver digital applications that ensure an exceptional online experience for Optum consumers.
  • Lead the development of new, as well as drive and enhance existing capabilities for digital products and experiences, from inception to launch
  • Act as a mediator between the consumers/patients/members, business leaders and the technical teams - communicating consumer needs and translating those needs into new product features for the team to design
  • Partner with the Complex pillar to define/design industry leading consumer-facing digital solutions, and ensure alignment with business and product plans (e.g., capital/funding commitments, revenue commitments, capabilities, functional impacts, cross functional roles)
  • Lead efforts to fulfill defined digital product solutions, ensuring solutions follow the digital vision and strategy of Optum's omni-channel experience

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop a coherent online product strategy spanning a wide variety of user experiences. Work with other organizational leaders to develop and communicate a complete online product, design, content, and user experience strategy and roadmaps in support of strategic business initiatives
  • Manage total performance of Optum's online products to meet critical business metrics, including traffic, user satisfaction, consumer engagement, and financial results
  • Collaborate with applicable business partners and stakeholders (including Optum's lines of business as well as Marketing, Sales, Shared Services, and Operations) to obtain appropriate market information/data and define consumer and business needs
  • Work closely with cross-organizational stakeholders, including limited interaction with executive leadership, on strategic priorities. Translate strategic priorities into actionable project plans

Required Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience leading online products, user experience, content, design, or production in large corporate or heath care environments
  • Experience with Agile software development processes. Formal experience with one or more recognized Agile methodologies (Scrum, XP, etc.) or toolsets (VersionOne, Rally, etc.) preferred
  • Extensive practical experience and sound theoretical understanding of relevant professional disciplines, including Product Management, Web design, Web authoring and publishing, technical architecture, Web content strategy, usability and accessibility, user experience design
  • Ability to travel up to 10% based on Business needs

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree
  • 3+ years of experience utilizing MS Office applications
  • Experience coordinating priorities and contributions of a network of non-technical Web content and project stakeholders from across a large, diverse organization
  • Experience delivering Web experiences that meet user needs based on usability research, UX design and information architecture principles, and product management methodologies
  • Experience working collaboratively at all levels and across business lines using influencing skills
  • Experience in other interactive and digital industry such as retail and financial services
  • Experience working in matrix environment a plus Fluency in Web technology, including front-end technology, back-end technology, social media, and mobile applications
  • Solid communication skills, including written, spoken, and presentation communications

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $97,300 to $176,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $97,300 to $176,900.
