The Executive Vice President of Product, Data & Engineering will be a member of the Red Ventures Media & Commerce executive team. You will lead the innovation of our product strategy for current and future Red Ventures M&C brands and their product offerings, with the goal of creating high impact consumer products in the media & commerce space.


You will also be responsible for continuing to transform and drive engineering and operational excellence on a modern architecture and platform. You will lead through data and insights, obsess about customer outcomes in every decision you make, and lead by developing the trust and respect of teammates.


Our portfolio of Media & Commerce brands is anchored by CNET; the world’s largest advice brand, and includes ZDNet, NextAdvisor; a partnership with TIME, Metacritic, GameSpot, TVGuide and more.



What You’ll Do:


  • Strategy 
    • Build a disruptive and out-of-the box business strategy, turning a highly successful media company into an online destination for considered purchase & shopping needs
    • Navigate the changing privacy landscape through innovative ad products, identity management solutions and personalization
    • Push the boundaries between the intersection of digital media and ecommerce
    • Define, articulate, and execute this revised strategy as well as set product vision
    • Leverage consumer insights, market research and data to align the leadership team on the right focus areas for the RV M&C future product suite
    • Lead technical due diligence for potential acquisition targets. This work includes assessing talent, outlining an integration plan for the targeted company and communicated a shared vision and culture to the acquired and current employees


  • Leadership
    • Build and lead a world-class team of 125+ product managers, technical architects, engineers, data analysts and data scientists
    • Create a passionate and inspired customer-driven product culture
    • Work cross-functionally with Red Ventures’ central product, technology and data organizations to contribute to and leverage RV-wide solutions
    • Collaborate with Content, Sales, Commerce, Marketing and Business teams inside of M&C to support and address their evolving needs
    • Actively participate in the Red Ventures Technology Cabinet to help set the technology and data strategy of the company. This group is led by RV’s CTO and members include the most senior technology leader from each of our industry groups.


  • Data-Driven Product Innovation
    • Define product requirements and overall roadmaps for each brand, plus the overall portfolio business with clarity on feasibility, time, cost, and impact across the core of; content publishing, site experience, ecommerce, advertising technology and sales enablement
    • Evangelize an ever-expanding product vision around improving consumer value, access, convenience, quality, and privacy
  • Implement solutions that leverage data science, predictive analytics, machine learning and other techniques to meaningfully advance the business
    • Drive innovation and scalable processes around the product development cycle
    • Develop metrics to assess the success of products and features and determine necessary enhancements


  • Engineering
  • Directly manage and mentor a team of engineering leaders to broaden their skills, increase their day-to-day effectiveness, and ultimately grow their careers.
  • Provide effective coaching and technical guidance, communicating as much as necessary with all levels of management, employees and partners to accomplish your team’s goals.
  • Participate in technical discussions and help make trade-off decisions


  • Data
  • As part of the foundational product strategy, create a supplemental data strategy to empower stakeholders with the necessary tools and insights to make data-driven decisions.
  • Manage a team of data engineers, analysts and data scientists; increasing their skills, the team’s day-to-day effectiveness, and ultimately grow their careers.
  • Provide effective coaching and technical guidance, communicating as much as necessary with all levels of management, employees and partners to accomplish your team’s goals.



What We’re Looking For:  


  • Experience 
    • 15+ years of successful product management experience with significant experience in organizational leadership and management roles, including product and engineering oversight in a geo-distributed and performance-driven environment
    • Experience in either the media and ecommerce industries, ideally both
    • Demonstrated experience conceiving, crafting and implementing high impact, product roadmaps with an emphasis on pace and expansion into creative new customer experiences
    • Experience implementing design thinking methods
    • Ability to conceptualize how AI / ML can be applied to drive customer value and business growth; demonstrated experience bringing those ideas
    • Experience at having partnered successfully with founders and / or CEOs who themselves also have a strong product lineage and / or vision
    • Experience in AWS and Google cloud ecosystems preferred

    • Willingness to learn about any technologies that you aren’t already familiar with.
    • Deep understanding and commitment to product development and software engineering best practices, modern data platform architecture, quantitative modeling languages, and continuous improvement through measurement
    • While formal software engineering expertise is not necessary, a technical background and direct experience working with software development team is strongly preferred
