Who You Are
This specific role is for an individual with program management, product management, or product owner experience who can demonstrate technical understanding of complex, integrated software products to act as an Epic Owner. As the high-level domain expert of the incoming epics in the IHU Apps space, you will take ownership of epics to shepherd them through the Lean Portfolio Management process from funnel through review and analyze phase, while ensuring epics flow into ARTs during the implementation phase. You are the process SME for epic definition, management, and execution, while also providing process mentorship to the other Epic Owners in our team. You'll represent the IHU Apps teams in LPM meetings at a high level and be responsible for epic status tracking and progress through the SAFe process to partners and the Program Management Organization. Responsibilities include engaging business owners and partners to define minimum viable product and establish clear epic requirements and acceptance criteria, facilitating epic technical discussions with architects and other technical team members, and if approved to implement, working with release trains to coordinate and execute the epic to the expectations of function and delivery timing imperatives. You will need to engage in a highly independent manner, and resolve blockers and work through gaps to deliver epics.
As a Senior Epic Owner, when bandwidth and product demands require, you will engage at the product definition stage and work with business product managers to author impactful documents that will drive development activities. This will include reading and comprehending high level business documents and transitioning them into a structured software development process of epics and stories. The role will work in SAFe PI planning to groom features into a committed plan, and execute that plan with development teams. After release of the product, the TPO will continue functioning as the SME for the product and support engagement on warranty.
Additional Description
What You Need

  • Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Math, or Chemistry
  • 8-10+ years of experience with software development acting in a product owner, product manager, project manager, solution architect, business analyst or similar role.
  • Coordinate and shepherd epics through the portfolio Kanban process
  • Engage architecture (enterprise, solution, platform) team members to align on interpretation and understanding of epics to build SME level comprehension of epics. Understand and represent appropriate architectural runway required to support epics.
  • Engage business owners (product managers) to align on product business plan and MVP. Ensure alignment to value streams and that each epic hypothesis statement is accurately represented.
  • Host RAD (requirements, architecture, design) sessions to fully discuss epic impacts with all affected engineering teams; ensure sizing estimates are completed and CR's are closed out in RTC.
  • Create a technology roadmap of epics and features leading to product deployment in Program Increment (PI) cycles across all affected ARTs that are impacted by approved epics.
  • Collaborate with all partners in engineering and the program management office to continuously improve team SAFe practices through LPM into our work funnel and help product and engineering teams to balance and manage change.
  • Ensure full lifecycle delivery of owned epics through complete delivery across all impacted ARTs.
  • Support the product manager and actively participate in SAFe PI Planning ceremonies within the impacted ARTs; compile and align individual scrum team feature development against epic requirements and determine when the epic is delivered.
  • Expertise and/or certification in Agile software development methods and Scaled Agile Framework practices. SAFe certification is highly desirable.
  • Experience in embedded android software development is highly desired; products delivered to vehicle electronic control units running and android-based OS.
  • Proficiency in software development tools such as JIRA, GIT, Stash, Confluence, ALM, RTC, Gherkin, and more
  • Knowledge and experience in vehicle infotainment platforms and architecture (GMLAN, CAN, Global-A, Global-B, etc.)
  • Proficiency in connected vehicle infotainment systems


What Would Be Even Better

  • Previous experience as a software developer in JAVA a plus
  • Back office systems interaction or integration experience a plus
