Organization Overview:
Does bringing some of the largest transformational changes to clinical research in two decades excite you? On the Clinical Design Medicines Development (MD) IDS team, we work as one team partnering with Medicines Development and the Clinical Design Hub delivering cost-effective science through the development of novel and innovative clinical trial designs and technology solutions. Our business outcomes are focused on speeding drug development and providing the best experience for providers and patients. We have a critical need for an Emerging Technology Product Operations Lead.

Purpose and Responsibilities:
As the emerging technology product operations lead, you will work with outstanding and passionate leaders across Clinical Design, Operations, Results, and Development to implement an operations strategy and practice for our clinical emerging technology solutions. As the role of clinical technology evolves to now include remote activity management, investigational software, digital endpoints, and novel measurement tools, we need to ensure robust and flexible support for these products and solutions. You will establish service management processes and mature our DevSecOps practices while leading a globally distributed team to ensure we can meet the needs of our patients and providers. You will influence quality and regulatory teams weighing and mitigating risks as we challenge the status quo. A successful candidate for the role will have experience in building industry best practice service management capabilities, strong technical problem-solving skills, a passion for customer service, GxP environment experience and Agile delivery experience. Initial assignments include defining and driving the emerging technology operations processes and services for Decentralized and Connected Trial capabilities. Responsibilities include:

Operations Strategy and Practice (30%)

  • Develop and implement an operations strategy and practice including robust ITIL v4 processes, GxP validation and a plan to mature our DevSecOps capabilities.
  • Ensure global privacy and regulatory GxP compliance collaborating with privacy team, quality team and regulators for solutions supporting clinical trials.
  • Establish appropriate metrics and tracking to measure progress and health of the entire ecosystem of solutions.
  • Manage budget and finances as applicable for operations and ongoing maintenance.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including clinicians, data scientists and data managers to support and evolve clinical emerging technology solutions and roadmaps.
  • Work with stakeholders such as product owners to define service level objectives (SLOs) for system operations.


Technical Leadership (30%)

  • Lead a globally distributed Lilly team of support engineers and technologists to ensure deployed solutions are fit for purpose and serving the needs of our business and patients.
  • Lead and collaborate with external vendors as necessary for delivery and support of clinical solutions.
  • Lead by example through hands-on technical troubleshooting, addressing priority issues and solution changes managing software-as-a-service solution providers where applicable.
  • Collaborate with development teams to promote the concept of reliability engineering during all phases of the software development lifecycle to detect and correct performance issues and meet availability goals.
  • Design, code, test, and deliver software to automate manual operational work (i.e., "toil").
  • Build deep subject matter expertise in both internally developed and third party provided solutions to engage in hands-on troubleshooting as required and consult on future direction of solutions.
  • Play a key, cross functional leadership role across the team to ensure we are aligned on the evolution of a delivery model intended to drive speed to value and innovation in an Agile framework.
  • Participate in communities of practice to share knowledge and foster continuous improvement.


Business Relationship Management (25%)

  • Develop in-depth business process knowledge and foster strong relationships with business partners and clinical trial teams.
  • Understand needs from a patient and provider experience perspective to inform solutions.
  • Partner with clinical trial team colleagues to ensure business critical trial needs are met with priority.


Personal Development and Projects (15%)

  • You will have the opportunity to invest 15% of your time in personal development and/or a personal project of your choice (e.g. Clinical Development Special Project, Clinical Design Special Project, Usability Research, Limiting Bias for Wearable Devices Research)



Basic Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree in a technical field
  • ITIL v4 Foundations certification
  • Certified Scrum Master or relevant experience working on a scrum team
  • 5+ years' experience building, developing, and supporting software solutions through the entire SDLC
  • 3+ years' experience leading software development and support teams



Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Experience with Agile and DevOps development methodologies
  • Experience with Software Quality Assurance methods and techniques in a GXP environment
  • Additional ITIL process area certifications
  • Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery experience
  • Automated testing experience
  • Experience with programming and scripting languages (e.g. Java, C#, C++, Python, Bash, PowerShell).
  • AWS, Azure or other cloud-based certifications
  • Experience with tools such as GitHub, Jira, and Sauce Labs suite
  • Comfortable working on projects in a fast-paced environment with ambiguity and change
  • Great teammate and creative problem solver with strong communication abilities
  • Ability to proactively address resiliency, monitoring, and back-up processes through automated methods
  • Experience with clinical trial business processes
  • Highly adaptable to changing circumstances. Interest in continuously learning new skills and technologies
  • Experience with incident and response management
