Job Description
Crafting the vision and strategy for Product Owners and their leaders that enables Discover to shift its operating model from project- to product-orientation.
The Director of Enterprise Product Management Capability plays a critical role in Discover’s Agile Way of Working (“AWOW”) transformation, primarily through elevating the Product Management discipline and capabilities within the community of Product Owners and business leaders.
This role will convene a cross-functional team with HR talent management, Learning and Development, project/change management, and DMS to implement strategies and programs that establish and reinforce industry best practices in Product Ownership and Product Management.
Responsibilities:
Establishes product management standards & practices, including industry standard methods and tools, and drives integration of these practices into the AWOW product-centric operating model
Develops functional learning and development approach for Product Owners to advance their craft and fosters a culture of continuous learning through facilitated community/guild connections, peer-to-peer collaboration, and mentorship
Achieves talent quality and proficiency in the Product Owner role through managing standard job profile, competency model and assessment framework and oversees talent calibration and career mobility strategies
Drives best-practices sharing across lines of business; leads cross-functional problem-solving on opportunities to improve Product Owner experience and engagement
Champions the product leadership learning strategy for line of business directors and vice presidents to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to be fully effective and empowering leaders in the product management model
Consults with line of business leaders on strategies to drive greater business value through a Product Management model
Qualifications:
At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:
Bachelor’s degree required
Product Development or Product Leadership experience within agile solution delivery operational environment
Deep practical and applied knowledge of Product Management practices and tool offerings and market/industry developments
Ability to influence without authority
Strong executive presence and communication skills; ability to work effectively with C-Level leaders, support teams and HR teams
If we had our say, we’d also look for:
MS or MBA additionally preferred
Leadership experience in Product Management, Product Development, end-to-end Technology Delivery, Operations management, Business Strategy, Marketing, and/or Change Management
3+ years leading Product Management capabilities in line of business or support function
Agile product delivery certification
Industry recognition as an expert with a proven track record for elevating Product Management standards and practices and building Product Manager proficiency
Strong change management and influence skills; ability to negotiate and communicate across all levels of the organization
Demonstrated ability to make courageous recommendations and decisions to drive significant organizational change
Experience working with senior leadership of an organization required with excellent oral and written communication skills
