Job Description
Our IT team operates as a business partner proposing ideas and innovative solutions that enable new organizational capabilities. We collaborate internationally to deliver the services and solutions that help everyone to be more productive and enable innovation.
The Associate Director, Indirect Tax Product Owner is a key member of the product finance/IT team that is responsible for the development and execution of strategic initiatives and imperatives related to the Corporate Tax business function. This critical role will also utilize the Scrum/Agile framework to continue our transformation to adopt those principles. This role will be the Product Owner for the systems utilized in Indirect Tax Determination, Indirect Tax Compliance and Reporting and Indirect Tax Analytics applications . Our current Indirect tax domain consists of a global Tax engine (One Source) with tight integrations to our ERP systems based on SAP and our source-to settle system based on Ariba and other critical interfaces. The Tax engine is a critical application across Human Health and Animal Health business lines and enables a compliant Tax calculation in over 130 countries serving complex and critical business processes. In addition to tax determination, there are Tax planning and compliance and reporting capabilities that serve the end-to-end business needs of the Corporate Tax department.
The Indirect Tax Product Owner is empowered and responsible for:

  • Understanding the end-to-end processes business processes such as Order-to-cash, source-to-settle and financial Management across Human Health and animal Health business-lines in order to deliver on the core responsibilities related to Indirect Tax applications.
  • Developing and maintaining a tax technology roadmap and work with key business and IT stakeholders to develop near-term and long- term plans aligned with Enterprise Architecture and position the appropriate tax technology choices for consideration.
  • Clarifying high level requirements and delivery expectations with business stakeholders for products under management and ensure delivery is on-time and agreed-upon quality and financial measures.
  • Providing technical leadership to the global and cross-functional product team/s and functional expertise in the Indirect Tax domain to deliver maximum value to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Manage the financial, execution and sourcing aspects of the Products under management from planning, budgeting, forecasting, execution management with rigor and discipline.
  • The ideal candidate will have a cross-functional background and possess the business acumen, financial acumen, collaborative leadership to support the key initiatives and drive the product roadmap and maximize the contributions to the company.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the IT lead for the Indirect Tax Product team and manage applications including an enterprise tax engine and interfaces, compliance and reporting applications and tax analytics.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with Business stakeholders, IT counterparts and vendor contacts and resources to enable smooth delivery of capabilities and operations.
  • Deliver prioritized capabilities, support major programs and run the day- to -day operations within a 24X7 global environment and minimize business disruptions.
  • Build and nurture key business relationships and develop an end-state vision, represent the Voice-of-the-Customer and build alignment across Business and IT stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain appropriate Product Roadmap blending external perspectives, with an eye to value-adding capabilities that increase business value, managing technology obsolescence and technical debt and optimize cost structure.
  • Maintain a prioritized backlog balancing business needs and technical inter-dependencies and constraints with appropriate attention to technical debt and vulnerabilities.
  • Grooms best-in-class product features with detailed analysis of impact vs. value and articulate the Objective & Key Results (OKRs)
  • Attract, develop, cross-train and retain key talent (both internal and external resources) to staff a global product team across US, India and Prague in an integrated Dev-Sec-Ops model.
  • Clarify roles and responsibilities within the Product team and for engagement on enterprise programs or other cross functional teams.
  • Stay current on technology and pursue opportunities for innovation.
  • Budget responsibility for assigned Squad(s)/Team(s).


Required Experience and Skills:

  • Strong ownership and drive with excellent domain experience in Indirect Tax applications across Tax determination, Compliance & Reporting.
  • 10+ years of IT experience with 7+ years of implementation experience of Tax engine based on Sabrix/ One Source or similar implementations with SAP.
  • Demonstrable technical leadership, relationship management, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Strong financial acumen and demonstrated successes in financial management and resource management.
  • 7+ years leading and managing both internal and external resources.


Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Strong Data Analysis skills with knowledge of SAP transactions and Indirect tax data requirements across tax planning, tax determination and compliance.
  • Experience working on Agile teams and knowledge of Scrum framework.

Education Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Accounting, Finance, or related.
