About the team

Would you like to shape the way one of our most important components is built and evolved and thus have a direct impact on most of our products? Then come and join us as a (Senior) Product Owner in our Representation and Input/Output team.

The work of this team enables all of Chemaxon's products to read and interpret chemical structures from a large variety of chemistry-related file formats (SMILES, MOL, MRV, etc.) into a common representation in digital space. Adhering strongly to file format specifications this team ensures that this representation can be translated to any supported file format with minimal to no loss of information. This team is also responsible for supporting the creation and extension of Chemaxon's proprietary file formats, and proper documentation for wider usage by the cheminformatics community.

A Product Owner at Chemaxon is a key member of the Product Management team, acting as a customer proxy, translating requirements into product features. They work with all product stakeholders to define and prioritise user stories for the product backlog in accordance with the product roadmap and our strategic goals.  They are accountable for the daily operations of their product, including, amongst others, backlog management and continuous discovery. They collaborate with other product owners and product managers on cross-product/team dependencies, ensuring that any identified obstacles are resolved in a timely manner.

This position will report directly to the Director of Product Management.

About your responsibilities

Collaboration and communication

  • Work together with other Product Owners and Product Managers to ensure Representation and IO is developed so that dependent products of strategic focus can achieve their goals.
  • Participate and contribute to a continuous solution discovery process.
  • Actively participate in team and cross-team demos and status meetings

Product scope and objectives

  • Collaborate with software development leaders to translate customer or market requirements into software requirements
  • Define appropriate user stories and epics to support the market and customer requirements

Program planning

  • Manage and prioritise the product backlog (i.e. story level)
  • Own the 1-year, high-level roadmap and the detailed quarterly roadmap; coordinate dependencies with other PMs and POs

Iteration Management

  • Ensure that the right amount of well-refined work is available to the team. Also, ensure user stories are written up with a sufficient level of detail
  • Lead the drafting, reviewing and validation of acceptance criteria
  • Accept completed user stories and make sure they adhere to the acceptance criteria

Experience, skills and knowledge you should bring to us

  • Very strong knowledge of organic chemistry concepts (stereochemistry, aromaticity, valence, coordination complexes, polymers)
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and navigate commonly used chemical file formats
  • Familiarity with basic cheminformatics concepts (for example, through professional experience in theoretical, organic, or computational chemistry fields)
  • Great communication, collaboration and presentation skills
  • Excellent English language skills (both written and spoken)
  • Ability to prioritise work and balance short-term and long-term goals
  • A practical, pragmatic and data-driven approach to problems

Bonus skills that will help you hit the ground running

  • Previous work experience as a product owner
  • Knowledge of the general software development life cycle and agile software development concepts
  • Hands-on experience with Chemaxon’s products is considered a distinct advantage but is not a must.
