About the Job
We’re looking for a talented Developer with previous experience of building pricing models, preferably within a (re)insurance environment.
As a (re)insurance firm, building accurate, efficient pricing models which are used by our underwriters helps to inform the correct level of premium required for the risks we are adding to our portfolio. This requires a crossover mindset between actuarial and software development to create an environment for developing pricing models that can be efficiently maintained.
What you’ll spend your time doing:
Assist in designing, developing, and maintaining pricing tools used by underwriters and actuaries;
Identifying technical pricing needs and developing and documenting effective, and technically sound, solutions to respond to these needs;
Follow software development best practices, including testing, documentation, and version control;
Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code;
Connect pricing tools to relevant internal and external data sources;
Work with databases to ensure data integrity and accessibility;
Suggest improvements to speed up workflows and improve usability.
You’re going to enjoy this job if you also:
Enjoy problem solving and critical thinking to provide innovative solutions, including evaluating technology and exploring new solutions.
Working in a dynamic solution-driven environment.
Working with stakeholders such as pricing actuaries and underwriters.
Are passionate about: designing elegant solutions to solve business pain points, which will improve and refine processes; and engaging with business analysts focusing on technical pricing.
What you’ll need:
For this particular role there are some important qualifications and experience we need you to have. These include:
Must haves:
Material experience as a software developer, ideally in insurance, financial services, or a data-heavy environment.
Knowledge of DevOps practice;
Managing code branches and releases;
Experience of GIT or TFS or Jira;
Strong working knowledge of programming languages (e.g. SQL, C#, VBA, Javascript, XML, HTML, JSON, Python).
Experience with Excel-based tools and/or web application development;
Database experience (e.g., SQL Server) and familiarity with data integration.
An understanding of actuarial or underwriting concepts;
Strong mathematical and computational ability supported by appropriate further education and/or higher education qualifications.
Proactive, collaborative, flexible and adaptable with a drive to succeed.
Extensive experience of developing complex modelling applications in an underwriting environment
Desirable:
Working knowledge of software delivery and development process;
Comfortable working with large data sets and being able to write complex SQL queries;
Good personal time management with ability to respond to tight deadlines in a demanding environment;
Good relationship management skills – a good communicator who is able to interact with Underwriters, colleagues and senior management as well as command their respect;
Possessing strong presentational skills both written and oral;
Proactive, flexible and adaptable with a drive to succeed;
We are stronger together because of our common interests and rich differences. You may be the strength we didn’t know we needed. Believe in yourself, and click apply today!
