Travel:
- Requirements for travel are specific to client and project team needs.
- Typical travel to any location in the country will be dictated by the project requirements, such as site visits, pre-bid contractor meetings, client meetings, design meetings, etc.
- Frequency of travel will vary and may average once or twice per month.

- Interstate 80 Pipeline Crossing Replacement Design-Build Project
What you will be doing at Woodard & Curran:
- Prepare detailed estimates (conceptual, schematic, design development, construction).
- Assemble the estimate including general conditions, special conditions, insurance, and bonds.
- Prepare and analyze cost models during the design development and/or bidding period.
- Participate in and make recommendations for bid evaluations and assist project teams in developing the project budgets, Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP), or Engineer’s Opinion of Probable Cost (EOPC).
- Ensure that estimates, including general conditions, are accurate, complete, and reflect the requirements of the project.
- Plan and lead the preconstruction strategy meeting on the approach to the project or estimate.
- Assure that potential risk factors have been evaluated and reviewed with senior management (i.e., Technical Advisory Team review, contract review, insurance review, etc.).
- Maintain subcontractor prequalification approval using the Prequalified Contractors Portal and Compliance Specialist.
- Coordinate the assembly of the preconstruction material for presentation purposes to the client (i.e., Design Development estimates or Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) booklets, etc.).
- Review subcontracts and major purchase orders, prior to issuance to the subcontractor, for compliance with the documents and the estimate.
- Coordinate and ensure that a preliminary construction schedule has been developed for each estimate.
- Provide monthly cost analysis for all active preconstruction assignments and manage preconstruction department budgets.
- Organize and lead the transition meeting between the project operations team and the preconstruction team and coordinate the follow-up meetings.
- Visit on-going projects to verify status of estimate versus project status, meet with the project operations team, view work in place for experience and comparison to the estimate.
- Keep up to date on trends in construction methods, construction costs, equipment, materials, wage rates, fringes and working rules.
- Identify and qualify new material suppliers and subcontractors and work with our procurement team to maintain our database.
- Initiate and maintain liaison with client and A/E contacts to facilitate successful preconstruction process. This includes attending regular project and client meetings.
- Identify new work opportunities and inform Sales and Marketing of potential projects with existing clients.
- Support and implement the company’s Project Quality Assurance Program.
- Provide direction on staff development
- Provide direction on technical issues and pre-construction project execution
What you will need to succeed:
- Preferred 4-year degree in an accredited construction-related curriculum, (BSCE, BSCM, BSAE, etc.) or experience equivalent to a 4-year degree.
- Minimum of five years’ experience as Preconstruction Manager with preferably 10-20 years of construction-related experience.
- Conceptual estimating experience on midsize to larger industrial, environmental, and wastewater projects.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the areas: estimating, scheduling, budgeting/cost control, financial reporting, client relationship, interpersonal skills, computer skills, ability to communicate, both written and oral, leadership and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated success in managing preconstruction processes for major, complex projects.
- Proficient in PC-based scheduling and spreadsheet applications. These include MC2 ICE, On-Screen Takeoff, Timberline, Procore, Primavera, Excel, Word, Access.
- Physical demands and work environment as directly related to projects.
- The duties and responsibilities are generally performed in an office environment. The position generally involves continuous sitting; frequent standing; frequent walking; light to moderate lifting; light carrying; frequent bending and reaching; keyboarding and telephone operation.
- The environmental conditions generally include ambient inside temperature, lighting and noise levels. Conditions may also include extended periods of travel by automobile and/or airplane transport. May require an irregular work schedule and overtime hours.
- May review or perform work at interior and exterior work locations that involve hazardous environments requiring protective equipment that conforms to OSHA regulations and some physical discomfort due to temperature, dust and noise. May require outdoor and/or on-site fieldwork. May be required to work in confined spaces, on ladders and rooftops, and in adverse weather conditions. H&S training will be provided, suited to the specific responsibilities and conditions anticipated to be experienced by each employee.
- Specific physical conditions require frequent work on computer workstations and/or twisting, kneeling, and balancing.
