You’ll set the vision for how Vertex develops exceptional people managers and high-performing teams—designing scalable, data-informed solutions that enable leaders and teams to do their best work in a complex, matrixed environment.
The Director, Talent Management is responsible for developing and executing Vertex’s enterprise strategy for People Manager Development and Team Effectiveness. This role partners closely with senior leaders, HR Business Partners, and Centers of Excellence to design scalable, data‑informed solutions that strengthen manager capability, improve team performance, and enable the organization to grow with impact.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead Enterprise People Manager Development Strategy
Design, evolve, and execute an integrated People Manager Development strategy that supports managers across the lifecycle and aligned to Vertex’s business priorities and growth trajectory.Lead Team Effectiveness Strategy
Provide strategic oversight for team effectiveness initiatives, including the design and deployment of tools, assessments, and interventions that address team dynamics, stakeholder alignment, and performance challenges across the enterprise.Serve as a Strategic Advisor to Leaders and HR Partners
Act as a trusted thought partner to senior leaders and HR Business Partners on manager capability, team performance, and organizational effectiveness, translating complex needs into practical, scalable solutions.Drive Data‑Informed Design and Continuous Improvement
Leverage quantitative and qualitative data (e.g., feedback, diagnostics, engagement insights, external benchmarks) to assess needs, measure impact, and continuously refine People Manager Development and Team Effectiveness offerings.Lead Cross‑Functional Collaboration and Influence
Partner across HR and the broader organization (e.g., HRBPs, People Analytics, Employee Experience, Legal, Total Rewards) to ensure alignment, integration, and adoption of talent initiatives in a highly matrixed environment.Translate Strategy into Clear, Compelling Communications
Develop and deliver clear messaging, frameworks, and guidance that enable leaders, managers, and HR partners to understand and effectively apply Vertex’s approaches to people management and teaming.Anticipate Emerging Needs and External Trends
Monitor internal and external trends in leadership, people management, and team effectiveness, applying best practices and innovative thinking to evolve Vertex’s talent strategies proactively.
Knowledge and Skills:
Deep expertise in People Manager Development, leadership capability building, and team effectiveness
Strong consulting, coaching, and stakeholder management skills
Systems thinking and the ability to translate enterprise strategy into scalable talent solutions
Comfort navigating ambiguity and influencing without direct authority
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly
Strong analytical skills and experience using data to inform decisions and demonstrate impact
Exceptional project management skills
Highly developed, exceptional presentation, training, delivery, and facilitation skills
Experience in managing vendors and working with consultants
Ability to work flexibly and effectively in a fast paced, evolving environment
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required
Advanced degree in Organizational Psychology, Human Resources, Business, or a related field preferred
Usually requires 10+ years of progressive experience in talent management, leadership development, organizational effectiveness, or related disciplines, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Demonstrated experience designing and leading enterprise level people manager and team effectiveness initiatives
Proven success influencing senior leaders and driving outcomes in complex, matrixed organizations
Coaching certification or equivalent experience preferred
Pay Range:
$181,600 - $272,400Disclosure Statement:
The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
