Summary:
The Payroll Tax Specialist is responsible for processing and reconciliation of multi-state bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll taxes. This individual will not process payroll but will be solely responsible for taxes (registering new taxes, reviewing variances within internal and external reporting, W2 processing, 940 & 941, etc.).
Candidates must live in CO, IL, MI, OH, OK, PA, or TX
What you will do:
- Processing, reporting, reconciliation, and auditing of quarterly and annual tax requirements
- Work directly with employees assisting and troubleshooting automated time gathering via Workday
- Reconcile IRS and State Invoices
- Quarterly and Annual Payroll Tax Processing (940, 941, W2, etc.)
- Respond to internal inquiries regarding various tax data and information
- Research and resolve problems concerning paycheck inquiries (regarding taxes)
- Ensure our various companies are registered and licensed in all states with employees
- Opening and closing of new and existing tax accounts
- Research payroll tax variances and notices from state tax agencies
- Troubleshoot and assist in resolution of tax filing issues working with a third party payroll tax provider
- Assist team with tax laws, regulations and best practices
- Develop and implement operational documentation regarding payroll tax solutions
- Utilizing online ticketing service Zendesk to monitor employee questions and provide solutions resolving concerns
What you will bring:
- Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft products
- Comfortable with technology, including using the full Google Suite
- Able to adapt to an ever changing environment
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Knowledge of payroll tax and process documentation
- Clear communication, both written and spoken
- Comfortable multi-tasking in a deadline driven environment
- Self-motivated and comfortable working in both collaborative and autonomous environments
- Bachelor degree in accounting, finance, information systems, human resources or a related field preferred (equivalent combination of education and/or work experience may be substituted)
- Two (2) years payroll processing experience
- Direct experience with Workday and ADP is a plus
Work Environment:
- This position may be a permanent remote role
The hourly wage range is $26.44 - $29.81. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, and a 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).
