What You'll Be Doing:   

Role Overview:

The Payment Solutions and Integration Manager is a pivotal role that ensures the seamless integration and management of payment systems across JD Sports Fashion Plc's platforms. Responsible for the payment provider integrations, such as Adyen, Klarna, PayPal, and Braintree, you will oversee the execution layer to ensure efficient and secure payment processing.

This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to optimise payment processes, enhance user experience, and ensure compliance with industry standards. You will also manage third-party provider contracts, ensuring they meet performance standards and integrate seamlessly with our workflows. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong technical and leadership skills, capable of driving continuous improvement and fostering a culture of excellence in payment processes.

The Payment Solutions and Integration Manager will lead the integration and management of payment systems. Responsibilities include overseeing the integration of online payment systems, optimising payment APIs, configuring and maintaining webhooks, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations.

Additionally, you will maintain and enhance supplier relationships with PSPs and other payment-related providers. This role demands collaboration with various IT and business leaders to align payment solutions with organisational goals, drive continuous improvement, and enhance the overall customer experience.

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

Payment Integration and Management:

  • Oversee the integration of online payment systems into the company's platforms and websites.
  • Manage and optimise payment APIs to facilitate secure and efficient payment processing.
  • Configure and maintain webhooks to enable real-time communication between payment systems and the company's platforms.
  • Collaborate with development teams to integrate payment APIs and webhooks into existing systems.
  • Monitor API performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure seamless payment transactions.
  • Ensure live and UAT/test/sandbox PSPs are always aligned.
  • Act as the technical product owner for main PSPs (Adyen, Klarna, PayPal, Braintree).
  • Manage day-to-day operations, addressing customer care inquiries and payment processing issues.
  • Create new merchant accounts and onboard new payment methods.
  • Regularly review service performance and conduct housekeeping tasks for all PSPs.
  • Implement solutions for unreferenced refunds, such as Adyen Pay by Link, Barclays Portal, and PayPal invoicing.

Fraud Prevention and Compliance:

  • Implement measures to detect and prevent online payment fraud, working closely with Fraud and Profit Protection teams.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards such as PCI DSS and GDPR.
  • Collaborate with financial institutions and technology partners to improve payment processing efficiency and accuracy.

Contract and Supplier Relationship Management:

  • Oversee the management of third-party provider contracts responsible for the execution layer of payment solutions.
  • Ensure adherence to service level agreements (SLAs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) as outlined in the contracts.
  • Lead negotiations for contract renewals and amendments, securing favourable terms and conditions.
  • Monitor vendor performance and manage relationships to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Maintain and enhance relationships with PSPs and other payment-related providers.
  • Ensure third-party providers are integrated seamlessly into the organisation's workflows and align with the overall strategic vision.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Generate reports on payment performance, trends, and metrics to analyse data and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor payment gateway performance and resolve any issues promptly.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in online payments integration.
  • Conduct competitor analysis to ensure the company remains ahead in payment solutions.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Keep abreast of industry trends and best practices in online payments, implementing improvements and adopting new technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline processes and ensure a seamless customer experience.
  • Develop and implement effective customer care processes to enhance customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Review and optimise customer service procedures to ensure timely and efficient resolution of customer inquiries and issues related to payments, orders, and refunds.

Skills/Experience/Knowledge needed:

  • Proficiency in managing and integrating payment solutions, including APIs and webhooks.
  • Strong understanding of payment systems (e.g., Adyen, Klarna, PayPal, Braintree) and their operational requirements.
  • Experience with cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure) and infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform.
  • Proficiency in programming languages, particularly Bash and Python, from a cloud and infrastructure management perspective.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in payment solutions integration and management.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex payment systems in a large organisation.
  • Experience in the retail industry or a similar fast-paced environment is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in IT service management tools and technologies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Finance, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Payments Professional, PCI DSS, ITIL) are highly desirable.
