VS Material Execution
Description
The Material Execution/ LMS Engineer is responsible for the working with the VS Material Execution Plant Leads to implement Automation for Material Storage, Flow, Sequencing, etc. Identification and implementation of automated material equipment, including automated guided cart (AGC) systems, automated fork trucks (AFT), and automated tugger units (ATU), within vehicle assembly plants to optimize material flow for future programs. The Material Execution / LMS Engineer will lead deployments of OAT and ASRSs to optimize required manpower and Floorspace in support future programs. The Material Execution / LMS Engineer will be responsible for continuous improvements for all LMS initiatives and the documentation of Standardized Work to support the LMS Strategies.
Seeking a self-directed engineer open to new concepts and ideas to develop and implement automated mobile equipment. This individual will work with all levels of a cross functional team and partner with plant team members to support successful launches, and drive established best practices at vehicle Assembly plant(s). This position is a unique opportunity to influence the way we as General Motors operate in our assembly plants.
Key Deliverables/Job Elements:
- Develop and Track all Master Dot automation, OAT & ASRS implementations. Execute on-time, with certainty.
- Support installation and execution of all automated material systems, including weekends and shutdown periods.
- Provide on-site technical support and issue resolution assistance during all executions.
- Provide updates to VS Material Strategies Execution Plant Lead, Program Team.
- Track implementation lessons learned and propose continuous improvement (CI).
- Drive common standards, processes, and lean designs.
- Interface with Vehicle Assembly Plants, Material Strategies Team, Conveyor Processing, Vendors, and Conveyors Execution.
- Represent Material Strategies Execution Team in equipment development and vendor technical reviews.
Additional Description
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Material, Packaging, Industrial, Controls, Systems) or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of project management experience in assembly plant/supply chain operations.
- High level of analytical ability & problem solving where problems are unusual and difficult.
- Proficient in project management (Master Dot) and tracking milestones to completion.
- Knowledge of manufacturing assembly processes and manufacturing engineering.
- Familiarity with GM plant floor systems - MGO, PPS, GEPICS, SEP...
- Strong working knowledge of GMS / Lean manufacturing principles, or TPS.
- High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
- Ability to work independently; self-starter.
- Working knowledge of GVDP.
- Proficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD and layout development.
- Proficiency with MS-Office tools (Excel, Access, Project, Word, and Powerpoint)
- Knowledge of work measurement/work standards, ergonomic principles, material optimization, and facility layout strongly preferred.
- Willingness to travel and/or temporary relocate during launch phases.
- High level of communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to present findings to all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated knowledge of material/ production systems supporting vehicle assembly plant ops.
- Demonstrated success in cross-functional project development and execution in manufacturing or supply chain environment.
- Ability to deal with and manage stressful situations.
Special notes:
Travel, extended working hours, and varying shift schedules may be required to support Program Material Launch Execution.
