Job Description:

Role Summary/Purpose:

EMV is a specification for conducting secure transactions between cards with integrated chips (chip cards), POS terminals capable of reading chip cards, issuers, and acquirers. EMV specifications broadly impact the payment ecosystem from card issuing to merchant acquiring and serve as the baseline technology for other products such as mobile payments.

The VP, Card Technologies, is responsible for leading and overseeing Synchrony's selection, testing, and certification processes for EMV technologies, contact & contactless based cards, and other emerging card technology solutions.

In this role, you will work closely with various industry players, chip and card manufacturers, SDK vendors, test labs, and test tool vendors, in support of certification efforts.

The VP, Card Technologies is responsible for shepherding all aspects of the EMV lifecycle; requirements, development, testing, certification, and delivery, for contact & contactless chip technologies and other emerging technology-based solutions.

In this role, you will partner with suppliers for roadmap planning and for providing internal stakeholders recommendations and communications on project status, prioritization, and improvement on processes.

This position is remote, where you have the option to work from home. On occasion we may request for you to commute to our nearest office for in person engagement activities such as team meetings, training and culture events. Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage requirements around EMV chip standards, partnering with payment networks, card processors, and chip/plastic manufacturers
  • Lead chip recertification lifecycle, ensuring adherence to all payment network and technology standards and requirements
  • Manage the strategy for EMV evolution, including future chip and emerging technology solutions
  • Keep abreast of emerging credit card technologies in the marketplace, including those tied to EMV and payment solutions, with recommendations for integration
  • Define and gather requirements and timeline while focusing on quality and timely delivery; organize and lead project working meetings; prepare and communicate project progress and issues; manage risks and issues logs and other required documentation
  • Develop and implement new processes, technology and related infrastructure to support client and Synchrony Financial requirements
  • Design and maintain process maps and playbooks to improve speed to market, process simplicity, compliance requirements and profitable growth
  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned


Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or, in lieu of degree, high school diploma/GED and 8 plus years of Credit, Debit Card or ATM Project Management experience.
  • 6+ years of work in the Credit Card industry
  • 4+ years of Project Management experience working directly with First Data, TSYS, Fiserv FIS processing platforms
  • 2+ years experience in the profile build and recertification of Eurocard/MasterCard/Visa (EMV) chip portfolios
  • Demonstrated experience leading a functional workstream or cross functional team for delivery of a conversion or new client start up in credit card industry
  • Ability to travel as needed (up to 25%)


Desired Characteristics:

  • 5+ years of payments experience, including testing experience of EMV technology and test tools
  • 3+ years of experience preferred in sdk product installation and testing expertise
  • Excellent project management skills to work across multiple external vendors to understand the dependencies across multiple parties and resolve issues
  • Ability to drive process, project, and results by influencing and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to think out of the box and find alternate option to resolve issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid relationship management practices with the ability to build working relationships with internal and external stakeholders


Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older
  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process
  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.
  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months' time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 24 months' time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don't meet the time in position or performance expectations).

The salary range for this position is 85,000.00 - 170,000.00 USD Annual

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA and Metro NY and some positions are bonus eligible.
