The role
At SoFi, Business Unit Leaders (BULs) and Business Leads (BLs) are the business leaders accountable for the ultimate performance of the business, our version of GMs.
As a Business Lead for SoFi Invest, you will be responsible for both helping set the long-term strategy of the Invest platform while also managing the strategy, performance and execution of key initiatives and/or specific product lines within the Invest business unit. You will work collaboratively on a cross-functional basis with Product, Engineering, Design, Marketing, Operations, Trading, Risk, Compliance, Legal and PR. Additionally, you will work with external partners that facilitate the growth of the business. Examples include Custody & Clearing, Market Data, Distribution and Trade Execution.
In the past, example initiatives have included:
- Setting the strategy for expanding SoFi Invest to a broad investment platform encompassing automated (robo-advisor), active (brokerage) and Crypto strategies.
- Creating and launching SoFi ETFs in collaboration with external partners
- Evaluating opportunities to improve operational efficiency while continuing to provide great service to our Members
- Working with Marketing and Product to create and evaluate new incentive structures for sign ups, referrals and new customer acquisition.
- Launching SoFi Relay, a digital personal finance solution that combines the best of SoFi’s technological capabilities and expert advisor team to deliver members relevant, insightful, and actionable advice about their finances.
- Developing the strategy and execution for real-time fractional share trading
- Helping expand the SoFi Invest footprint internationally
We expect that going forward the Business Lead will be responsible for similarly impactful and challenging initiatives across the Invest product set. Over time, the role may evolve to focus on solely direct management (i.e., a “GM” model) of a particular product line (such as Active Investing, Crypto, ETFs, or Automated Investing).
What you’ll do:
- Set the long-term strategy of SoFi Invest as well as the strategy for particular product lines within the Invest platform, that both help our members Get Their Money Right and drive SoFi Invest/SoFi overall performance objectives
- Work with the full cross-functional team (marketing, product, design, engineering, compliance, risk, and operations) for your lines of business & initiatives, to help them execute on the strategic vision.
- Drive strategic initiatives (including product and business model innovation), working with other SoFi businesses (such as Lending, SoFi Money, or International) and functional leaders to differentiate our platform.
- Participate in resourcing / budget, marketing strategy, and product roadmap discussions, advocating for your business lines and initiatives.
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and non-financial reporting and deliverables for your business lines, engaging with key stakeholders across all functions. Communicate key insights from reporting to the Invest team, SoFi Executive team and SoFi Board of Directors.
- Continuously manage the prioritization of various initiatives with a focused customer outcome and for the benefit of the overall franchise.
- Ensure appropriate and accurate flow of information across all constituents.
What you’ll need:
- Full stack “operator” - ability to both create and execute the business strategy; with clear objectives, but limited, ambiguous, or varied direction.
- Ability to operate cross-functionally, leading and influencing colleagues over whom you have no direct authority, ultimately leading to timely tactical decision making to advance our objectives.
- Flexible and collaborative approach to problem solving and ideation.
- Excellent written and verbal communicator.
- Deep curiosity for how complex (financial) systems work, and an ability to internalize and analyze this information quickly.
- A blend of demonstrated business, marketing, product management, financial management and execution skills.
- Expertise in the generalist business “toolkit” (i.e., spreadsheets / modeling, presentation creation, narrative writing, oral presentation)
Nice to have:
- Experience in consulting, investment banking, or in a similarly demanding role.
- Experience in consumer financial services, ideally investment / wealth / asset management.
- Experience in a cold start business or startup environment.
- Data and analytics technical capabilities (tableau preferred, SQL / R / SPSS would be amazing)
Why you’ll love working here:
- Competitive salary packages and bonuses
- Comprehensive medical, dental, vision and life insurance benefits
- Generous vacation and holidays
- Paid parental leave for eligible employees
- 401(k) and education on retirement planning
- Tuition reimbursement on approved programs
- Monthly contribution up to $200 to help you pay off your student loans
- Great health & well-being benefits including: telehealth parental support, subsidized gym program
- Employer paid lunch program (except for remote employees)
- Fully stocked kitchen (snacks and drinks)
